Default vararam issues....

I don't know if you all can help me or not.....
I had the Vararam system installed on my 02 z06 yesterday. It seems like since then (I have drove it approximately 100 miles) the car is idling a little bit rough and also when I have it around the 1400-1200 rpm mark when I am slowing down it seems almost like it is missing or something. Maybe it is just me being overly sensitive because of all the bad things I have heard about the install of the vararam (a big reason I decided to have the dealership install it). Does anyone have any ideas?? Thanks in advance!

A) It takes a few hundred miles for your computer to "learn" the new intake air volumes
B) If (after several WEEKS) it still has this problem, please contact Patrick, who owns VaraRam. He is very responsive to customer's problems.

mine ran a little rough for a few hundred miles too, but cleaned up and is perfect, let the computer learn. I agree if it doesn't change by then you should have it checked.

Default still having problems....

Well I am still having problems (after 350 miles). At around 60 mph in 6th gear with cruise on (around 1500 rpm's) the car felt as if it was sputtering or missing--it isnt all the time only on occasion. Also, when I get behind cars it does the same thing almost everytime when cruise is on. Also, if I am in 1st gear not pushing the gas going about 6 or 7 mph it does the same thing. Any ideas? I am aggravated this is happening especially since I dropped 150.00 to have it installed. Thanks in advance again for the help!

I would give vararam a call, they were very helpful when I had a few issues. I hope you get it figured out, good luck.

I have a K&N filter set-up and if i do 6-7mph in traffic my car wants to stall and sputter, and 60 in 6th might be to slow mph and low rpm, stay on the gas a little at low speeds and work the clutch, IMHO 60 mph is for 4th gear cruising, 6th is for 80-90 cruising. I think what your experiencing is completly normal.

Make sure all your air coupler/bridge clamps are properly tightened. You might be sucking air if the clamps are loose. Good luck.

Just one thing -- did the installer disconnect the battery for at least 20 to 30 minutes? In order to get the computer to "relearn", you really have to disconnect that battery for a while so it loses its memory and force it to go through the re-learn routine. Then, per Vararam instructions, you drive it at moderate speed, no WOT, for 40 to 50 miles, and it pretty much picks up the new air flow and adjusts accordingly. I did that routine when I installed mine, and it worked perfectly fine. The other thing you should do is check all the fittings and be sure you don't have any air leaks and that all sensors were properly reconnected.

Hope that helps.

I believe it's a little more than 50 miles. I had my Vararam installed at Vararam in Pasadena and drove it home to Richland, Washington before it quit bucking and surging. But you're right, you must disconnect the battery first. Sorry, I forgot that step.

04 Z and no issues ever (7 months) with the VaraRam. Check for air leaks at filter, bridge or coupler. Make sure you disconnect battery for a minimum of 30 mins to be sure. I drove mine about 150 miles for the relearn. Never had rough idle or surging after install.

I know my battery was not disconnected at the install because all my stations are still programmed in. I will disconncect the battery tomorrow and see what that does. Another question for you all......I have the B1 system, however, I ordered the green filter from vararam and had it installed with the system. They sent some weatherstripping with it which I put on....are there any other modifications necessary for this filter to fit properly??? Could that be the problem? I thought I had read that there was some fabrication that was necessary in a previous post. Thank you all very much for the input! I love this website!

You might have a slight surging around 1600rpm. (very common) I would take it in for a dyno tune and see what kind of A/F ratio you may have and see if your tuner can add some fuel to get you back to 13.1:1.
