That figure is based on the amount of fuel your gas guage says you have in the tank (not the actual amount in the tank) and the average MPG the computer is currently recording. Some of these cars have gas gauge issues, so make sure the guage is indicating a full tank. Since you did not mention the the average MPG, compute that figure with the tank capacity figure to see if the numbers are close to what the computer is telling you. I.E. with a 20 gallon tank at 20 MPG average you should see a 400 mile range. You can reset the average MPG on the DIC and go do some interstate cruising to get the average MPG up then look at the range figure and see if it is also up. Good luck.

That's exactly what I was going to say. I've seen my DIC say well over 500 miles on a trip.
I just got back from a long trip and during the interstate driving, it would say around 520 miles. I just filled up today after driving around in the city and it went to 385. Just depends on what kind of driving you are doing
I filled up this afternoon and while crusing on the motorway I began playing with the DIC. (nothing crude intended) As I reset the instant fuel mileage I then went to the range and in said 751 miles just for a second.
That's true. On the interstate, assuming you're not doing 90mph, LOL, at a "reasonable" speed with cruise control, you'll get much better mpg average compared with "city" or "in town" driving, where you have to deal with frequent stops and starts from traffic lights, etc. So, your "range" as I like to call it, is usually much higher after a trip on the interstate, then falls after driving around town again.
