What type of alarms are you guys using or suggest? I am going to purchase a Navigation system and would like to have a deterrent more so then the factory alarm. Do you feel the factory alarm is sufficient? If not, what system would you suggest?
A friend of mine use to do installs on alarms and told me sto stay with the factory alarm. He said most alarm places will not do vettes and if they do you have to fill out all kinds of liablity form. Reason being with the way the ignition and factory wireing is done there is a good chance of the air bags going off during install. he sugested if there is a factory alarm to just add a new sirene and a vibration sencer witch most alarm places will doand it cost less to do.I have not done this yet but plan towhen ever he find the sencer he has laying arond his house.
Hope this isn't considered a highjacking...in the "old days" we'd wire a switch into the ignition coil so the car would crank but not start w/o throwing the switch again.
Does anyone know if something like that is possible in a C5 Z06. It won't stop a flatbed though...
They make the harness, VATS by-pass, etc. So nothing to splice, unless you start playing with the windows, etc.
But, IMHO, Just add a shock sensor to the factory alarm and you have the same thing. The VATS already has the code security and fuel cut off, the horn sounds, just add the sensor and you'll be go to go. Someone here did a DYI write up on it, just seach for it.

In my day we called this a kill switch. The simplest place to put this on manual shift cars is the clutch pedal safety switch wire. Splice into this wire, use a high quality switch, and find a good hiding place for the switch.
The easiest way to avoid a flatbed theft is to park it where a flatbed doesn't have access to it.
We are a new forum vendor and have put together a kit to add a Proximity sensor to the factory alarm. The installation instructions reference a convertible, but the priciple for the coupe is the same. The kit basically taps into the switch wire for the trunk or hood in the case of the coupe.
We have designed and assembled this kit to be easily installed and integrated into your existing factory alarm. You can leave the windows or top down and still be alerted if someone enters or reaches into your vehicle! This is a great addition for all C5 Corvettes, but is a necessity for convertible models! $119.00

Yes it is. Try a search on this topic. It's been discussed numerous times.
Mine is protected by Sonitrol while parked in my garage. As for the flatbed theft problem....just back her into parking space where they can't get to the back wheels??

Is THIS why I notice almost every vette is backed in to the parking spots?
My avatar protects mine.
Have never really had a problem.
Had some kids get too close once and he really likes to shake them all over the front yard.
I don't even have trouble with sales people coming around.
He is one of three and they work together.
I would look into an add on alarm. A couple of companies offer motion/vibration sensor add on systems. One thing I could never figure out is why my 2000 Grand Prix has a motion/vibration sensor sytem on it from the factory and my 2000 Corvette (Which costs more) does not.
