How often do you change your belt? Mine's 6 years old and has 23,000 miles. Looks great and have no problems, but should it be changed? Thanks.

I changed mine at 5 years, 20000 miles. Belts were dry and worn.

FWIW, I have 12,000 miles on my 5 year old C-5 belt, and it still looks OK and runs quietly. However, I just had to replace the belt on my Z-28 a couple of days ago. The car is 10 years old, with 63,000 miles. I've replaced it at least once before, however it just started squealing when I would turn on the a/c. There are no cracks, or any visible damage, but it just lost "traction".

It's really dependant on a number of variables; millage, damage, heat etc. A belt needs to be inspected on an annual bases. Any visual damage; cracking or brittleness is a good indication that its time to change. Another substance that causes them to deteriorate is ethylene glycol. Leeks in the system that come in contact with belts also causes them to degrade over time and accelerating their replacement.

Just changed the one on my Tahoe with 130000k miles on it. Still looked good, but the tensioner started squealing.

I just changed mine when I did an underdrive pulley and my stock belt from 99 was starting to look sad. 50k miles on the clock.

I'm getting tensioner squealing on mine now. Is there some way to lube that (internally, not the belt surface )?

Or.... did the squealing stop when you changed the belt?

Default How long NOT to wait

Change it before it looks like this, the cracks! I know it's dirty. Also don't let your hoses do this!
