Bought a 3 year extended warrantee from Warrantee Direct 10 months ago. Took it in because the headers fried the O2 sensors and the A/C was out. They are denying the O2 sensors which I expected, but will not fix the A/C either because the car has been modified. They sent out an inspector before they issued the policy, and He noted the headers on his report and they still sold a warrantee that they never intended on honoring. So if you have ANY modifications, according to their Claims Dept. you have Zero coverage. Now they are backsliding on a full refund of the premium.
yep..if they knew the car was modded and sold you a warranty they are azzholes...
I almost bought an extended warranty and they offered a payment plan..basically pay like 8 mos instead of all of it upfront...what they failed to tell me until AFTER they sold me was that I had NO COVERAGE until they were paid in full...so basically the first 8 mos were usueless....I demanded and got a refund of my downpayment...fuggers
Wow this is enlightening! I am really surprise they don't cover parts not affected by mods. They should definitely give your money back if they are not going to cover you. Wonder if you can take them to small claims court if they don't.
I bought the warranty from WD and took the monthly payment route (10 months). Well, 2 months into the payments, I made $2k worth of repairs. So, in my case, they honored the warranty even though it wasn't paid in full.
But, this is the reason I decided not to buy a cat-back. Last thing I need is for them to deny the warranty based on a mod. I thought there was some kind of SEMA law that said if they couldn't prove the mod caused the problem, it's covered.
Did they send someone to look at the car before the repairs, or did your repair shop rat you out?

I'd be raising heck with them on this. If they sold you a warranty and knew that the headers were there, they should cover things that go wrong as long as it wasn't as a result of the modification. I have Warranty Direct too and have a few mods. The car goes into the shop on Tuesday to see why the keyless entry won't stay working. Guess I'll find out just how good they are then.
Hope somehow they come through for you. Maybe talk to someone higher up the food chain at Warranty Direct if you haven't done so already.
And please, keep us posted on how this eventually turns out.
After several hours on the phone I found out all claims are handled by a company called Interstate National Dealer Services. They are no help as they say they have to abide by the contract. I then called WD and finally got to a supervisor's supervisor who said he would take it ot the internet director ( I assume some man behind a curtain ala Wizrad of OZ ) and they will call me on Monday. In the meantime I referred the matter to our attorney and he is going to call me back. I will keep the forum updated. By the way I was able to get a copy of the Inspection Report and it listed the headers as being on the Vette when the inspection was made and when the policy was issued.
This needs to be a seperate thread, I have C.A.R.S., and they had better not pull any BS with me (this stuff makes me a raving lunatic, I can't stand some nit-picking azzhole when you pay good money for a service like this ), I hope you get it worked out....not fixing the AC because of headers......please
Well this is VERY interesting since I just bought WD based on the favorable rating by the folks on THIS forum. I'am not surprised by the no MODS thing although they were aware of the headers by the inspector. Time for BBB, online BBB etc.
I have WD and had the rear end leak fixed w/o any problems. Paid right over the phone and I wasnt finished paying for the warranty either. No problems here!
Boddie at WD Is refunding the premium despite the fact that I stated I wanted them to honor thier waranty. I even offered for them to pay for these repairs, keep the premium and then cancel the waranty. The fact is that the repairs exceed the premium. So it looks like we take this to the BBB, Colorado and New York Ins Comm. and my attorney.

Sorry to hear that but I am glad you are going after them. A previous forum member used to highly praise this company. So now we know the rest of the story! (A reference to a news caster named Paul Harvey). Please do keep us informed.

I was all set to go with WD on my next 2 cars (vette & dd) after hearing this was a stand up company, but now??? I don't like companies that will not honor a contract or look for any lame excuse to reject a claim. Even the attempt to avoid their contractural responsibility and then payup when they are exposed puts them in a bad light. If they would have excluded something up front when they saw the headers - then thats fair. This should be a winner in court, they can't change the term of a contract when an expense comes in and they were aware of the item (headers) from the beginning. Don't let them out of it by taking a refund now, as the saying goes "squeeze". I'll be interested to see if they're unwise enough to fight this in court, their biggest losses will not be in court but in the market place. The end results of your situation will reach all the forums all the way down to the VW's and Mini-Coopers and some other non-automotive ones too. Their are some bad decision makers in their house!
If I had the time and resources, and should WD offer to cover the claim, I'd refuse and say we are going to court. Let them know you are after damages and false advertising. Maybe mention the beginnings of a class action.
Last info from lawyer was DO NOT cash the refund check. He feels that it usually hard to get to one of these waranty companies, but loofeels good in thois case due to the inspection report and their admission that they made a mistake. However that admission was made when they called me and I bet it was not on a recordewd line. We'll see what tomarrow brings.
Man I think you just got a jerk inspector. my car has headers and many mods but I've taken it for repairs numerous times and never had any problems. I usually take it to a friend at a local dealership he calls it in and they have paid every time. So far around 6k.. good luck..
Extended warranty on a moded car - you're taking a chance. Most Insurance companies look for a way out. You'll hear horror stories about all the different companies.
Which is why I decided not to touch my car with any mods which is under Warranty Direct with them having to cover all costs.
