Default Does the oil catch can work?

I installed Not-mee's catch can 300 miles ago on my '04. Just got back from a little drive and thought I'd check under the hood. To my surprise, I saw that the catch can was indeed doing what it was installed to do - catching oil that was headed for my intake!

Newly installed:

Please excuse my ignorance. I really don't know much about this stuff. Will somebody please explain how this device works? Is this helpful only if there is some underlying problem, or is this device always a good idea. Specifically, where does this oil come from, and what damage might it cause? Does this somehow improve performance?

A good link would be sufficient in lieu of a detailed response. I am starting from square one here. Thanks in advance.

Lsx engines are known to create oil mist in the rockers.
this mist gets carried over thru the PCV valve and into the intake resulting in carbon build up on the piston heads and knock.

The catch can intercepts the oil mist condensing it and holding it in the catch can instead of traveling into the combustion chamber.

Elite Engineering is looking at a really nice design. There was another thread with some great pictures posted recently.

Yes, but is it availible for sale? I got Not-Mee's a month ago. For $65 bucks plus shipping, you can't beat the deal.

I just installed one of the CH units that I purchased at Home Depo for about $20 (fittings and all) I was sceptical as to whether or not it would work, but I took a short (100mile) trip this weekend, and checked it when I got back, and sure enough, there were a few drops of oil in the bottom, and the hose to the intake was dry

This is probably a stupid question, but I can I use one with a Maggie or are the lines run differently?
