An option on the C5s was daytime running lights. They called it "Twilight Sentinal". We can turn the feature on or off with the options button on our DIC. When the option is turned on our parking lights in front is on during the daytime.

mmmmm the parking lights are always on, daytime running lights were not an option they were standard and are always be on (unless disabled manually). Twilight sentinel is automatic headlights which will turn on your headlights automatically when its dark enough.

Yes, Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) are standard on all C5s and are always on whenever the exterior lamps (i.e., headlamps and/or parking lamps) are off for all domestic C5s as they came from the factory. (For C5s built for export to some other countries, the DRLs operate differently and do not stay on constinently.) There are several ways of disabling the DRLs on the domestic models which a number of people have done:

How to disable DRL

The easy way to disable them is to pull the A2 fuse. You get 3 DIC codes with this method.

Theres a more permanent fix that installs a jumper in place of the 38 and 40 relays. That allows the full approach light feature to operate and there are no DIC codes tripped.

Mine are disabled as amber DRLs are illegal in Europe and my car is modified ready to go back to UK.

The day time running lights are not the approach lights
That option is to have the outside lights come on when you unlock the door with the key FOB.
Read your owners manual to find out more.

I think so

Approach Lights
Press the OPTIONS button until APPROACH LIGHTS
appears on the display, then use the RESET button
to page through the following choices:
• APPROACH LIGHTS ON
• APPROACH LIGHTS OFF
If you choose APPROACH LIGHTS ON, the fog lamps,
front turn signal, rear back-up and courtesy lamps
will come on for 30 seconds when you press UNLOCK
on the remote keyless entry transmitter. This will
occur only when it is dark outside.
APPROACH LIGHTS OFF turns off this option.
See this poll about the DRL a few post down if you want to know what most people do http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1452744

No, StephenT and the information he provided above is correct. The approach lights, when this option is turned on, only light up when you press the UNLOCK button on the key FOB. Too, they only light up for approximately 30 seconds after pressing the UNLOCK button and only when it is dark outside. Their intended purpose when on is to provide some light as you approach the car in a dark parking lot or the like. Turning this option on in the DIC does not keep them on while driving in the daytime or night. Here's the description of their operation from the 2003 Owner's Manual:

Approach Lights

Press the OPTIONS button until APPROACH LIGHTS appears on the display, then use the RESET button to page through the following choices:
  • APPROACH LIGHTS ON

  • APPROACH LIGHTS OFF

If you choose APPROACH LIGHTS ON, the fog lamps, front turn signal, rear back-up and courtesy lamps will come on for 30 seconds when you press UNLOCK on the remote keyless entry transmitter. This will occur only when it is dark outside. APPROACH LIGHTS OFF turns off this option. See “Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) System” in the Index for more information.

cenzo mentioned the fog lamps in his post above. The fog lamps (if your car is so equipped - they are optional equipment for some model years) use the same lamps as the DRLs but are operated from a separate switch on the instrument panel just to the left of the steering column. Keep in mind that at night when you turn on the exterior lamps (headlamps and/or parking lamps), the DRLs are automatically turned off. The fog lamp switch allows one to turn the Fog Lamps/DRLs on during nighttime conditions, as needed. Here's a description on the operation of the fog lamps from the 2003 Owner's Manual:

Fog Lamps

Your vehicle may have this feature. Use the fog lamps for better vision in foggy or misty conditions. Your parking lamps or low-beam headlamps must be on or the fog lamps won’t work.

To turn the fog lamps on, press the button located on the instrument panel, to the left of the steering column. A light in the button will come on when the fog lamps are on. Press the button again to turn the fog lamps off.
And here's a description of the DRLs and their operation from the 2003 Owner's Manual (Note that the DRLs, fog lamps and front turn signals all use the same 2 front lamps):

Daytime Running Lamps

Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) can make it easier for others to see the front of your vehicle during the day. DRL can be helpful in many different driving conditions, but they can be especially helpful in the short periods after dawn and before sunset. Fully functional daytime running lamps are required on all vehicles first sold in Canada.

The DRL system will make the front turn signal lamps come on when the following conditions are met:
  • The ignition is on,

  • the exterior lamp switch is off and

  • the parking brake is released.

When the DRL are on, only the front turn signal lamps will be on. The headlamps, tail lamps, side marker and other lamps won’t be on. Your instrument panel won’t be lit up either.

To idle the vehicle with the DRL off, set the parking brake while the ignition is in OFF. Then start the vehicle. The DRL, headlamps and parking lamps will stay off until you release the parking brake.

As with any vehicle, you should turn on the regular headlamp system when you need it.
The owner's manual is not all that clearly written and playing with all of the lamps should give you a better understanding of how they operate.

Hope this helps!
