So how can one tell if the column bypass issue has been done... The car is a 97 m4 with 15k miles.... The driver seat also rocks about a 1/2 but I saw those posts.. I also know to look at the leaky battery, so if there's anything else to look for please let me know...
When you shut the car off, pull out the key & see if the wheel locks. If it does....no CLB, if no, then CLB was done. The only other thing would be to check the rear axle shaft seal. The driver side is the one that usually leaks, from what I understand. Good Luck!

If you have been keeping up with the threads, then you should know what to look for. And, if it has minor issue, not that big a deal. Plenty of tech tips to fix it
Also, if it hasn't been done, you should contact GM to see if the car has received the latest service recall for the column lock. Not a true fix, but possibly better than nothing at all (however, the details escape me of what they actually do when they perform the recall fix). Good luck!
