Window switch malfunction does fit here. Thanks for talking about it with us. Glad you escaped quickly. We all know that commentary on the video is BS!! Talking about it does wonders.
Hey Slong, in regards to why they took so long to extinguish the fire: when the intake exploded the fuel rails were still spraying fuel on the top of the motor, also the nitrous line had come loose and was spraying nitrous into the air. As we know, nitrous is not flammable itself but it does fuel the fire that was already burning. The track crew said since I was out of the vehicle and safe they did not want to risk an injury of one of the employees. I was fine with this for a few reasons, one I wouldn't want to see anyone hurt. Two, once the car had caught fire I really didn't want the car to be put back together or rebuilt(what a mess that could have been) so I almost preffered it to burn a little longer. I will say that they track employees handled things well, they took a lot of heat because of the videos but they helped me with everything they could and they contacted me afterwards just to check up with me. Also, they told me that when I got a new ride they would get me some free passes to come back(obviously they did not want to lose my business) but I thought it was a nice gesture! I never mind talking about this with anyone and if anyone has any questions feel free to ask. Its kind of funny because I am somewhat famous for blowing my car up. Everytime I am at a cruise night I get people asking me if I am "that guy" who blew his car up!!!
I love this whole NOS is not flammable thing. NOS + heat source = fire... Gas isn't flammable either if you just poor it on cold concrete and look at it - but once exposed to say, a hot exhaust header - presto, fire. That by definition is flammable. If NOS wasn't flammable you wouldn't be injecting it into the engine to increase HP.
Nitrous oxide is a non-flamable gas. It's molecular structure consists of two parts nitrogen and one part oxygen. Nitrogen is an inert gas that makes up a large percentage of the air we breath. Oxygen is a very unstable and very flammable gas. The two nitrogen molecules bond with the oxygen and makes a very stable gas. In order qualify that statement, let me add that it is stable at room temperature and normal atmospheric pressure. While in a combustion chamber, pressure may be up to 200psi or more with temperatures in the area of 500 to 800 degress Celsius. At this pressure and temperature, the molecular structure of nitrous oxide breaks down. This introduces raw oxygen into the combustion chamber. Oxygen burns hot and requires a lot of fuel to keep the temperatures low enough to keep from burning holes in the pistons.

I don't dispute that...however, if you spray it all over a hot header it'll burn. And if there's a fire present to start with, it'll fuel it. I've run it, and methanol, and several other things in the course of my pro racing career - occaisionally we cheated.
I just watched the video that was a nice Z I love the ending that shows who the "jerk" was.
Also I always wondered about insurance covering a car at the track ect. how does that work.
It's always been a fear of mine to take it to the track wreck it or so and have it not covered.
Well I told my insurance company the truth about everything. I even sent them the receipts showing I had the Nitrous professionally installed and they said they took into account all of the mods when they calculated the value of my car. Then they told me I could go take anything off the car that I wanted before they towed it away!
As far as the idiots go that were on that video, there are always haters when you have a nice car. I now realize that, and can care less about those guys. At first all of the people that know me tracked down their car club and signed up on their clubs website, but it got shut down pretty quick.

...just another stupid kid - you can't fall down without landing on one.

Neither is water, yet some people inject it, and it increases horsepower. For that matter, I'm pretty sure everything is flammable as some temperature. NOS is not flammable in its state. When a chemical reaction occurs, then it is, but by then, its not NOS.
Simply put:
1) Enough oxygen to sustain combustion,
2) Enough heat to raise the material to its ignition temperature,
3) Some sort of fuel or combustible material "like that camera dude", and
4) The chemical, exothermic reaction that is fire.

Water is injected to decrease detonation - not nearly the same thing.

itchynackers,
Nitrous Oxide is an "Oxidizer" it is 100% flamable at all times that it is a GASEOUS. When it is compressed into liquid or semi gaseous state it is generally safer. What your not thinking correctly about is Nitrogen is NON-Flamable / NON-Explosive. It is mixed with oxygen to make a blend of Nitrous Oxide, which is MUCH safer to handle then pure oxygen.
Twil1ght, your very close...
On MOST applications a cooler charge temp, in associtaion with ness detected knock will allow a vehicle to advance spark timing which will indeed lead to more performance.
I seriously hope the car owners knows the camera folks, and can knock them upside the head for callign him a douche bag... Apparently the kids don't know that a nitrous fire is capable of being fatal. The guy did the smartest thing in the world. GET THE HECK OUTTA THERE!!!
Then again, the kids probablly showed up in a car that was 1/10th the value, and their filming... not running for a reason... LOL.

In my younger day, we sprayed nitrous into a fire and it put the fire out.
I know there is a heated debate on this site about wet vs/ dry nitrous, but what happend in the video seems to happen alot when you mix nitrous and gas together in an intake.. Thus is why I went the dry route and never had a problem, worst case I would blow my motor.
Now I know many people run wet with no problems this is just my 0.2 about nitrous.
Shocker, I guess you took the best route on the cam guy, I would have wound up hurting him and going to jail.
shocker: Agian, thanks for sharing man. Glad it happend when it did, and not when you were flying down the track at 100+ MPH!!
As for when this took place, the video says it was added the 8th of this month, 2006.. so how am I supposed to know how old it is? This is public forum, open for discussion about vetts. Take a
