Default Couldn't find a weight reduction thread?

Is there any thread that address reducing the C5 Z06 weight? For example:
Light weight battery 30lbs
etc....

I've searched for these also in the past, and there usually isn't much. I'm a weight weenie myself, but will be trying to limit my actions with my upcoming 04 Z06. The real beauty of the Z06 is that the factory did the weight reduction for you, including parts like the exhaust, windshield, and even antenna. I want to embrace that philosophy, as weight reduction (for me anyway) usually entails giving up creature comforts.

All that being said, the usual weight loss stuff still applies:

Lightweight battery (up to 30 pounds)
Seats (not sure how much, but certainly possible)
Front brakes (StopTech or similar - 8 pounds per side iirc)
Hood (Z16 hood weighs about 10 pounds less)

I'm definitely not an expert on C5Z weight reduction at this point though, so that is about all I can say on the matter.

I was thinking weight saving for a road course setup.
This is what I was thinking

Battery 30lbs
Seats 25-35lbs
Door bars 20-30lbs
Front and rear bumper support 60lbs
A/C 30-40lbs
Carpet 20lbs

Then unsprung weight such as
Flywheel 15lbs
Wheels?
Brakes? Could add weight if its a big brake kit

Then addition of Roll Bar 60lbs

So far the reduction in weight would be around 215lbs. Add another 60lbs of roll bars and that brings the reduction to 155lbs. Giving a C5 Z06 weighs around 3100lbs that would bring the car down to 2950lbs or so. Is it possible to bring the Z06 down to 2750lbs or so?

Good reference points, and I didn't realize you were originally looking for "track only" setup information. A few months ago there was a magazine test of a Z06 setup similarly to what you describe (R&T SPEED Magazine), and the end weight was quoted at "about 2900 pounds". He also had an LS2 engine in the car, which I believe weighs about 15 pounds less overall.

You should consider the Autocross & Roadrace portions of this forum.

Sup Steve, I noticed you've owned a few Supras. I'm a 3000GT guy (used to own one, been looking at vetts for a while now). So I'm sure you can relate that getting weight down was a major goal
If I remember correctly, if a forum member on 3si got his car down to
34-3500lbs or so, that was a big deal! lol Not sure about Supraforums... you guys arent too much lighter tho.
I remember reading about the F-40.. that thing weighs like 2400lbs.. TT-small V8.. can you imagine? congrats on getting your Z!

Thanks for the very kinds words, and I totally hear you on the 3000GT VR-4 weight reduction. I was proud to get my Supra TT from 3475 (full tank of gas) to 3211 pounds (3/8 tank). I'd done more extreme weight reduction on previous Supras, and had one down to 3150 (1/8 tank), but it required the loss of too many creature comforts, including A/C. With the Z, the work was done for me!

Go lighter to go faster!

Carpet is 40 lbs

Take out the stock seats and put in race seats, 30-40 lbs each

take out speakers and stereo, 20 lbs
light weight battery
remove ac condesor.

Light weight wheels, 17" wheels are lighter and faster.
Light weight brake rotors, Check rules you may have to run stock equipment in many cases.

BBKs add weight.
adding a roll cage is +200 lbs

most race series have minium wieghts too, with drive and fuel after the race. I think T1 is 3200 lbs min.

J-Rod is a busy guy who's helped many of us through the years. He spent much of his net time at that site.

His weight reduction thread took a lot of research for J-Rod to assemble. So a tip of the hat to him is in order.

Do a search in the C4 sections. There have been several very long threads about weight reduction. Very good stuff.
