WD40 is NOT designed to be a lubricant. It is a Water Displacer. What realy works is to look a little farther down the isle from where WD40 is, and look for Penetrating Oil.

Penetrating Oil.........You can find it just about any hardware store or auto store that sells WD.

Back in the day, wet ignition wires from condensation and maye even road spray, would kill your spark. The guy who invented WD40 was looking for a spray that could be applied on wet spark plug wires and get you going again, quickly. The name is a natural, he tried 39 blends of chemicals before finding the one that worked as a great Water Displacer....the 40th try. Hence WD for Water Displacer, and 40 to 40th try. I guess you have to old to know this, it was common knowledge in every workshop when I was a kid in the 50s

My dad would scream bloody fits about using the right stuff for the job,and always had a can of WD40 AND a can of Penetrating Oil around.

We use a special blend of penetrating oil made by KANO Laboratories called Kroil. You can't buy it in stores, but you can from their website. However, just to make those front adjuster screws easier to turn, any brand from the auto parts store wil work just fine.

When lowering on stock bolts, does this do anything negative for the handeling? What about the car alignment? Mark

From everything I have read on the topic, it should handle just as good, if not better when lowered on the stock bolts. The Alignment will need to be checked and completed, but you should wait about a month before you have it done to make sure the suspension has settled all the way.

Hi Jennifer -

WD-40 just fine for simple lubricating AND penetrating needs.

I have been using it on rusty bolts for 30 years and it works very well.

It will also work very well for the simple need of providing some lubrication on the rubber pads on the front ride-level adjusters.

I also have PB-Blaster and CRC for penetrating oil needs (PB works better than WD-40 IMO).

The makers of WD-40 seems to think it works as a lubricant, and penetrating solvent....
