Recall & BCM/PCM Programing Problems?
While car was in dealership, the following took place, according to their service department:
1) They ran the battery down, and said they were locked out of the car becasue of the Security System?
2) They have said that they need to replace the ignition switch because of a recall for the Electronic Column Lock System, which had been done previously. Cost will be $400, which they will get the Chevrolet Area Rep to compensate me for, but I have to pay ahead of time. Recall # is 04006. The faulty switch, they believe was the cause for the battery to drain down.
3) Now they are having problems ( a week now - still not fixed) on re-programing the Body Control Module (BCM) and Engine Computer (PCM). According to the repair manual the BCM and PCM confirm a password with each other or else the Theft Deterrent System is activated which prevents the car from starting.
Questions:
1) Since the Column Lock Recall was already performed once, how long should it be good for? Replaced twice?
2) Find it hard to believe that even when the battery is dead, you can't get into the car using the door key? Is this for real?
3) Is it really that difficult to re-program the BCM and Engine Computer to recognize each other (password)?
This is the latest word I've received from the Service Department - the ingnition switch was the source of all the problems. Will keep the group informed.

Doors can be unlocked with the key.
If they cannot do this, then they are in the wrong business.
As to the Column lock - replacing of the ignition key is not in that scope of work.
I would question their integrity -start with the Service writer, and ask to talk to the tech. Ascertain the experience level of the tech (is he really qualified to work on Vettes?).
If you are still getting the run around - ask for the District Rep.
BTW, who is the dealership (name and location)? Someone on the Forum may know their capabilities already.

They are jerking you a new one.
Or, they don't know what the heck they are talking about. The recall should be 100% on them, not you paying for the repair and having to wait on a "possible" refund. It's
They are also probably refering to the actuator instead of the ignition switch that needs to be replaced. Those too can be the problem to the column lock. Also bear in mind that the K harnesses which are part of the 4006C recall have been bad. But, you shouldn't have to be out any $$$ for their recalls.
