Came out of a restaurant tonight and noticed that my drivers side headlight was still partially up. When I turn on the lights it closes and opens up normally with the other head light. When I turn the lights off it closes, but then pops back up, not completely open but very close. Tried flicking the switch a few times problem stayed the same. What the hell is causing that??
The lights are raised/lowered by a little motor in the assmbly.
There are no limit switches, the motor runs until the lever it drives hits a hard stop. If there is no hard stop, the motor will keep driving until the power to it is automatically turned off which is about 7 seconds or so. This would cause the light to come back up.
I would take it apart to see if somehow it is getting by the hard stop.
There is a white nylon stop that the motor arm rests on when the door closes. These stops will wear and possibly break, allowing the door to move past the stop point and pop back up.
Here's a link to a TSB related to this issue for earlier C5s with some diagrams to help.
Thanks guys. I figured it out, looks like it has already been shimmed according to the tech bulletin. The tabs were slightly bent, straightened those out and bent the stop arm so that it makes more positive contact, problem solved for the time being.
I love my car and wouldn't give it up for the world but honestly I could do without some of the more "foo foo features", just more to go wrong. TPS System, pop up lights etc., just annoying sometimes.
