Default Be Careful! Jacking Pad Failure....

I posted this in C5 Tech too but just in case you guys dont see there I dont want anyone to get hurt. I had FOUR (4) jacking pads from Corvette Accessories Limited fail on me this weekend. Two of them failed more spectacularly than the otehr two (as in the car could have fallen off the jack). I was not under the car when this happened I was just changing my wheels for my race wheels. These pucks were less than 6 months old and used maybe 6 times in total. I just ordered Billett ones from Elite Engineering, and I would reccomend anyone who uses pucks to consider those, I got away lucky this time, I dont want to hear about anyone less fortunate.

The one on the left was the worst, it basically split in half.

the one on the right was similar to how all 3 ended up, they basically cored themselves and the outsides peeled off, the middle is also cracked and probably would have come apart had it sat more.

I'd be interested to hear what CAU has to say about this...

Wow,
that's scary. Glad you were not under the car. I have 4 hockey pucks with I bolts. I haven't used them all at the same time, but they seem like they should hold up.

I actually wasnt using all of them at the same time. The first one cracked in half yesterday when i was doing my drivers side wheels. I went on with the second one to the passenger side and I was like NFW 2 would fail... sure enough it did.

But, those two were sitting in my front hall in 100+ degree heat the past few weeks. So I went to my basement and grabbed the other two that I had which have been sitting at basically constant room temprature, and I doubt Ive even used them more than once. Those two also began to fail similarly to the one on the right altho much much less severely.

I've got the Elite Engineering pucks and they are awesome! I did use some Rhino ramps for a bit until they cracked while doing an oil change on the Impala, bent the lower radiator support.
Elite makes awesome products and awesome service.

I have the same jacking pucks from CAU as you do - they are probably four years old. No problems yet, but your post makes me .

Please keep us posted on what, if anything, CAU says about this if you call them.

I use solid aluminum ones, I never liked the flex of the plastic/rubber ones.

Jay-sus!

And here all this time I thought I'd just wasted money on those billet ones of mine.

I just looked over the included instruction sheet and there arent any instructions saying that you could use or not use a floor jack on the pucks. It actually only describes their use under a lift or as supports under a pair of jack stands. Due to the cup shape of the floor jack that maybe theoretically would prevent the issue I had with the 3 of them... however the one that just straight out split in half it would not have prevented. Im glad I had the cup shaped floor jack holiding it up like that as if I had it on a jackstand when it split like that at best I may have damaged my rocker, at worst my car would have fallen on the front suspension or rolled into traffic.... preferably not removing a limb of mine in the process....

I guess I will e-mail the pic to them and just tell them about the issue. I am not going to make a big issue of it, its only 50 bucks, I am more concerned about keeping my friends here from getting a face full of oil pan the next time they are under the car.

Now THIS is really scary. Has anybody else had their Rhino Ramps fail like this?
