Default Trunk Hatch Closing Issues

I've just picked up an 01 coupe, and the trunk hatch requires a solid slam including a follow through. Much more effort than I would think should be needed. I was reading through all the papers I recieved with the car, and the previous owner had had this issues looked at before. The receipts say something about the latch bolts.

Anyone familiar with this problem and know exactly what to do?

Try it with a window open. If it's much easier, you have an air vent blocked. Do a search I'm not sure where this vent is located.

Or just lower the lid until it sits on the latches, then push down firmly at each corner. Much better than slamming.

I always open a door when closing the hatch. I have done this with both of my C5 coupes.

I have heard that some folks found the latch bolts loose. As was mentioned above the C5s are somewhat airtight, so if you have the doors and windows closed you wll need to be firm with the hatch. There is a device called a window valet which helps with this problem - it allows you to control the windows from the FOB. This way you can have the windows open when you close the hatch, then close the windows with your remote.

Yes, you should definitely provide some form of air escape, window, door, etc.
I have a vert not a coupe, but my trunk latch mechanism had bolt problems. The "bolts" actually have clips that hold them in place accesible by removing the license plate? I'm not exactly sure as this is the only warranty issue I have had the dealer fix. Three of the four clips had come off of mine. See if you can grab the latch part that is secured to the body to detect any looseness.

All coupes have this problem. The vent is on drivers side rear inner wall. As others have mentioned vettes are pretty air tight and there is nowhere for the air to escape. If you close slowly and then push down harder it will make it a little easier, but your best bet is leave window or door open.

You can lift the vent cover as ajg1915 decribed and put something about an inch thick behind it to hold it open a little. This helps let more air pass through. You have to look hard to see the vent.
