I bought a 2002 C5 Coupe a few weeks ago, and I love it! As a newbee, I have a couple of questions... Is it worth having the car tuned, and does anybody know of a good tuning shop in Knoxville, TN?
Also, I have the habit of putting the automatic transmission in neutral at long traffic lights; is this a good thing to do? Thanks to everybody.

Default Congrats on buying a great car!

I've had my C5 for three years and I love it even more today. Last weekend for example....fully loaded for the beach and running at 95 degrees with the air at full blast...the car remains cool and strong.

unless you are getting engine knock under heavy load or have a lot of mods on the car, I don't think the cost of the tune can be justified. Save your bucks until after your done the cam/heads and headers....

And putting the Vette into park at stop lights actually causes transmission wear (multiple shifts from park to drive) IMO.

welcome....

BTW - save your money on the tune until you do some mods which will come quick if you hang here

Welcome to the Forum and congrats on your new Vette! I, too, have an A4 and live in the land of the exceptionally long red light (Colorado), but I can't think of a time I've ever put it in N at the light. Just me though. I do a lot of shifting (that's what it's there for!), and I'm sure shifting to N at the light will not harm anything.

Just some things to think about while in N at the light:

If you're behind another car and your in N and get rear-ended....well, look forward to getting both ends of your car worked on (unless you have your brake on in N, in which case what is the point of having it in N anyway?)

If you're not paying attention and there is an imperceptible hill you may just roll backwards into someone while looking for that CD or dialing that number. I've seen it happen twice personally, so it certainly isn't unfeasable.

Just my $.02, and I prefer to know it's in 1,2,3 or D and ready to go with my foot firmly on the brake until I'm ready to unleash the beast.

Again, welcome and take care!

Congrats and welcome from FT Campbell/Clarksville, TN ! You'll love the vette! I would put on a CAI, headers, x pipe and cat back exhaust before you do a tune, but I 'm not familiar w/ Knoxville, and I can't answer your ? about autos, I have a MN6. Well. 1 out of 3 aint bad!

Welcome to the world of the Big Butt. I bought my vert used, so I took it to the dealership for a complete check out (I know some members cringe at that thought.). I just learned of a place nearby me that does tuning. While I don't think it's a priority, I plan to have it done. And here's a wave from NJ.

i wouldnt slip it into neutral until you've come to a stop..

coasting up to a stop sign or stop light in neutral will (may)be harmful....something to do with a drop of tranny fluid pressure...

but i'm sure the guru's will add to this if i've heard wrong !

Congrats on the new ride and welcome to the forum!!

I would leave the car in D......

I would wait and do a baseline dyno and tune before modding.

Wait on a few more mods before you get a tune - its not cheap. I'd leave the car in drive if it were mine.
