Default C6 Shifter

Looking at one of the C6 shifters, which I understand is getting rave reviews. Does anyone know if I can use an aftermarket shift **** (I just bought a new Momo) with the C6 shifter?

not much difference between a C5 shifter and C6 other than height. I woudl go with B&M's new C5,C6 shifter. its great, no noise and good feel

you'll probably luv the C6 shifter. It has the low profile of the Ripper and Hurst but not that tight unforgiving feel. I assumed the hurst would be the one for me because of the look but then I tried it in an owners car The Ripper was even worse. The C6 shifter is very very smooth, a tad bit smoother than the C5. My only regret was that I didnt do it sooner. Still, if i were you, I would try it and make sure you like it before buy it.

The C5 boot maybe too big because of the much lower Shifter profile. I just got my new boot for the C6 shifter from Vette Essentials last week.

Not sure about your Aftermarket *** question though.

yes, it does depend on what type of feel you want. the stock smooth feel or race car feel. also with the B&M you do not need a different shifter boot. if you want to test, just go drive a C6

Barry:

I put the C6 on mine last year after the Hurst. The Hurst was way too
tough and the noise/vibrartion was undesireable.

Fred Beans (Gene) was just runnig a special on the C6 Z06 shifter and
free shipping.

I don't know about the Momo fitting but it is a threaded **** and
just may fit. If you're in the area, give a shout and you can try it on
mine.

I used the shift boot I got from you on the shifter. I had to cut it open
and roll it down from the top, but it fits very well.

I don't know how you would put the Momo **** on the C6 shifter. The C6 **** attaches to the C6 shifter with a torx screw on the "side" on the shaft. You'll have to find out how the Momo **** is screwed on and therefore you may have to modify the shifter or the **** to make it work.

I have a C6 shifter in my C5. The C5 shifter has threads for a **** to screw onto. The C6 shifter does not. The C6 **** is held in place with a set screw. I also went with the C6 ****. I like the looks and feel of it.

Here's a picture of the two shifters side by side. C5 on L, C6 on R.

Here's an interior pic after the installation was completed.

I had a Hurst in my Z06 for almost 3 years. For drag racing it's the best, but for HPDE use and/or around town it gets tiring fast.

After trying all the tricks to make it shift a bit easier and quiet down the buszzing I switched to the full C6 Z06 assembly (got it from Fred Beans GMC) and a Vette Essentials all black short boot.

I love it... I drive the car to work almost everyday and enjoy it so much more. Also, w/ the decrease in drivetain noise and shifter noise the exhaust is louder (not that Kooks and Stingers are quiet).

Looks like it came from the factory this way... I love VE interior pieces I also put their arm rests in too.

I had the Hurst in my 99 and 03 Z (over 5 years of combined use). The C6 shifter if perfect and I have no desire to spend money to fix something that isn't broke. The C6 shifter is smooth and noise free and just feels good.

there is a workaround for the Hurst noise vibration. But it always be a very rigid shift. The owner's car that I tried had his hurt in for well over a year and it was was just too rigid. I guess is ok for a 1/4 mile run but too much rigidity for tracking on roadcourse events.

Thanks George.....Hope all is well in Flemington. Thanks for the info. Feedback I'm getting is the Momo I have won't fit the C6 shifter, but I'll keep checking it out. Did you ever get the new Cowl you were talking about?

Don't know about the B&M but subjectively I found a big difference between the C5 & C6 shifters. I like the C6 **** much better as well. I've tried both the C6 and C6Z06 shifters and found them to be similar with the Z06 version a little notchier, but with a slightly shorter throw (1 in. 1-2 shift). Unless you're racing, either one is a good choice. You should be able to find a C6 shifter in C6 or C5 parts forum. I sold mine there for $75 less ****.
