I called the local dealership and Chevrolet Corporate to figure out which recall has been performed on my car. They said that in Aug 2004, recall #04006 was performed but they could not give me any specifics. They want me to bring the car in so they can run a diagnostic to see if my car is covered under Special Policy #05081. I want to avoid this altogether. My question to the wisemen of CF is...will the CLB work with #04006 (2004) performed on my car? I heard that if #04006C was done then you would have to remove the faulty K harness for the CLB to work. Thanks in advance.... and let me throw in one of these

AAARRGHHH---- Are you kidding me????

OK...while this horse is still gasping for air let me pose this. And I understand opinions are like butt holes:
I just picked up a 1998 coupe with an automatic. 27K on the clock. I can hear the pin moving with the key being turned. My steering wheel locks with the key out. I called my local dealer who said both recalls were done (one in 2001 and one in 2005) and there was nothing left to do. They said the K harness was installed. I called GM who confirmed the wheel should not move and suggested I bring it to my dealer for confirmation of the lock. Then they suggested I "proceed from there". I have read the 22 page CLB thread in its entirety. So my options are:
1. Bring it to the dealer to get the locking ring removed
2. Install the CLB (are there issues with 1998 cars or not??)
3. Both 1& 2/

I am confused (and so is your dealer apparently), the latest recall was Feb 06...and your dealer doesn't know this? The latest recall also removes the locking plate which means your steering wheel SHOULD turn with the key out. So whoever you talked to at GM doesn't have a clue also. You need to go to a new dealer who knows what the hell they are doing.

Having said that I would still prefer installing the CLB then letting the dealer mess with your car.

Everyone that is affected by it should just treat it like putting gas in their cars. It has to be done - so just do it.
Much like the Optispark in a C4 (except a helluva lot cheaper).
