I ordered a Hurst Short Throw Shifter from Corvettes of Houston. UPS delivered it Friday afternoon. So I did the install as soon as I got home from the office.
My initial impressions were not good. I didn't like the increased amount of effort required to make the 1-2 and 5-6 gear selection. It has a very mechanical feel to it that I did not like. And, gear selection required very precise movements.
I have now driven around for four days with it.... and now... I love it. I can say it is one of the best mods I have done. What I really wanted was to get away for the tall truck shifter from the factory, I wasn't really concerned about shorter shift times.
I got a shorter shifter height, looks better. AND, quicker more precise shifts. Alot more fun to drive.
I installed mine on Friday as well and really do love it...It is just notchy over stock, and gets a little while to get used to...
Does yours rattle upon accelleration?

Adam that one is setup w/ the lightest outer spring only. You need the springs to keep the shifter down in there. I took them all out and then you can pull the shifter stick up which is bad!
If you want it even lighter you can pull the spring out and cut a little bit off then stretch it out some.
Have had the Hurst shifter for over a year now, I'm using the Hurst
ball, no rattles.
The short throw is well is great even with the extra push it takes.

VERY HAPPY
I never really liked all the high effort, high notchiness of the aftermarket shifters, so I cut my stock shifter down 2-3 inches, got a red billiard ball and tapped it 18 9/16 " and viola! A short shifter with stock feel for $5 + (free) labor!

YEAH! notchy is the word (if that is a word) that I was looking for!
But, no, no rattles. Does make a little humming noise, but nothing noticable. I kept my stock shift ****, and also have a chrome ball for when it cools off.
I put my Hurst in about 4-5 weeks ago and also didnt like it the first drive, it seemed noisy and stiff....
After driving the car, the shifter loosened up(so to speak). It also rattled the second and third days after the install, since then....no rattle at all. I have the black shift ball on, but it's not the Hurst ball.
At this point it makes zero noise, zero rattles, and is nice and loose(vs. when new). The drawback is that I do hear more noise from the shifter area, more than I used to hear......for some reason.....
