so, I brought my Z06 in to get the windows tinted & the guy is having trouble. He says that the curvature of the side windows is too much so that when he tries to squeegee it flat, the tint wrinkles. He is using 3M brand. He did the windows on my sons truck & they came out real nice. He said he has done a C6 & c4s, but doesnt reacall if hes done a C5. Are the side windows of a coupe the same as the Z?
I'm not 100% sure but I believe they are the same. As far as your tint guy having problems with the curvature of the windows, that's the first I've ever heard of that. Mine was tinted with no problems. I have seen numerous Z06's tinted w/ no problems.
The biggest challenge is the dot matrix on the rear glass. Can he tint your rear glass as the curvature of the sides is much greater than that of the side windows. My advice- go elsewhere.
Mine were done within minutes...Todays technology cuts the tint to perfectly fit the window...There were no issues with the curve on either door windows. Mine have been done for five years and look as good as they did when they were first done.

That guy is full of $hit...I had my car done no problem....I would take it some where more qualified.
Most people find this hard to believe, but the C5 side windows are actually tougher to tint than the coupe hatch window. The side windows have a very odd curvature to them, and it isn't easy to get the film to lay down on them.

This is pretty much what he said verbatem. He mentioned using a heat gun, but was concerned with distortion. He said he's using a little thicker film than most, so this may be adding to his trouble.

Good luck!
I wouldnt say he's full of ****.......at least he didnt do it, try to charge me for it & it was a crappy job. He was actually very forthcoming with me & was disapointed that he couldnt get it done for me. I have seen his work on peoples cars all over town, he does nice work, or my car wouldnt be sitting in his shop right now. He did a buff job on the body that made it look damn near brand new.
He has about 6 years experience with window tinting. Remember, I live in a fairly small town where theres not a bunch of C5's rolling around, or even that many Corvettes period. That makes it entirely believable to me that he may not have done any C5's.
Just need to use a little heat. If he doesn't already know that, you might want to get a different installer.
I own a tint shop here in columbia and we have one guy that has just started working here six months ago and he can do them no problem. If that guy has been doing it for six years then it should be no problem for him either. And yes the windows on a vette are a pain in the @$$.
