would these repairs really be minor?
was looking at c5 coupes on ebay and saw one that was a theft recovery. the desciptions says:
1. It is missing the radio (see picture) ,
2. The handling control module that is between the seats is missing (see picture),
3. The computer module does not light up to read all the gauges
and that the repairs would be minor. kinda sounds too good to be true with a buy it now price of $14,500.00 but then again he also said they replaced the engine... I'm sure someone will ask for it PM FOR DETAILS.....No ebay links..........rules of da house
2. No eBay in any way, shape or form.
The Corvetteforum is not eBay; we've had too many bad deals with eBay transactions and they
have nothing to do with the forum. If eBay is disallowed, so do all the negative posts that
will come from those bad transactions.
not that I can afford even this

The ebay ad for this car stated they put in a new engine. I would question why a new motor at 26k and then stop without fixing the "minor" repairs. IT DON'T MAKE SENSE AND THAT IS WHEN YOU NEED TO BE MORE THAT CAREFUL. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR, and being on EBAY they are looking to sell and make a profit. EBAY sales represent a potential HIPE and misrepresentation. Like the Wiz of OZ get the man to come out from behide the curtain.
Just an oberservation but the drivers seat looks like it's got more than 27k on it. It may be that the reason the guage lights don't work is because they replaced the cluster with one with lower mileage.
Anyone notice that the Check Engine Light is on in the picture? I understand the traction control light being lit, by my CEL doesn't illuminate when I turn it off. If its a comm issue, the CEL will still not light.
The interior is worn way beyond 27k. It also looks very faded, like the glass was out of it for a while and it all go very wet and left in the sun to dry, several times, for a long time. The front end looks way off kilter. head light doors don't fit right the bumper doesn't fit right, hoods off. Could have been from engine change, or the thieves may have drove it like they stole it...oh, wait, they did.

I have bought a lot of out of state cars , you always pay the taxes when you title the car in your state . i know I had to pay a very small inventory tax out of TX once , but we are talking a few dollars , but why pay CA sales tax then have to file for a credit ?
This whole deal reeks and stinks ! stay away .
That vehicle is new enough for it to have been fully insured. A theft recovery vehicle usually becomes the property of the insurance company when the registered owner's insurance theft claim is paid off. In California, when the vehicle is a recovered stolen vehicle, the title is re-registered to the new owners (the insurance company) and the vehicle is given a "salvaged title" by the DMV, whether the vehicle was damaged in the theft or not. The insurance company has to recoup its losses by selling the vehicle. It’s very difficult to sell a “salvaged titled” vehicle. Most buyers will shy away from a “salvaged vehicle’. That’s probably one reason the price is low.

Although that is worded very poorly, If it's a dealer that issues temp tags onsite, that's probably true that they must collect tax. But they can't charge you CA tax, they tax you at the rate of your home state.. They have to collect the tax in order to release a temp tag. Most states are like this now. Even if they didn't collect tax, and you went to a CA DMV on your own to get a temp tag, that DMV would collect the tax then.
It's not a big deal, they will only charge you at the tax rate of your home state, issue you an affidavit (proof of tax paid), and when you go to register it in your state, your DMV will accept that and won't tax you again.
I've been through it, and it is legit. But, only with a dealer. Private party sellers do not collect tax, be it from your state or out-of-state.
