Default Header Questions

I would like to buy a set of headers for my 01. In addition to the headers I would like to also install either an X or H pipe but I do not know which is better. My goal is to increase the low to mid range SOP feel. I would like your opinions on Long vs Short tube headers. Also who makes the most effective headers out there. I have looked at all the posts I could find and I still do not understand what would make one header better than another. I know there are many different tube length, design, and thickness options out there but I have no idea what would be best. I already have Borla Stingers in the rear and I am going to keep the cats. Please give me your opinions guys I am at a loss here. I have a stock engine with dual cone intake. I do not plan to change any internals for several years and I also know that I should also replace the stock intake bellows and bridge with a after market unit. In addition any recommendations on a new bridge and bellows would be greatly appreciated.

I have a similar set-up

I went with American Racing Headers, so far, no complaints. The Vette Doctors did the install and I watched it.... Very easy bolt on. Of course, these are long tube headers.... Why change out to short tubes, for what came on the car in the first place?

I personally think if you're going to go for it, then change out the headers, get an "X" pipe and mate them up to your Borla stingers. Since you're already in there, change the stock cats to hi-flows.

Most important thing is to get a good tune afterwards.

Good luck.......

I'd get the long tube headers - much more power to be gained than with shorty ones. Do the X-pipe - you get a better balance of exhaust flow with it than with the H-pipe that came on the car. Some good brand of headers are LG, Kooks, and Dynatech.

I've got a set of Dynatech Supermaxx LT headers, fairly easy to install, they come w/ GREAT Install instructions and look good -

FORGET about short tube headers, they're not worth your efforts - There was a set of Dynatech headers on the forum for sale w/in the last week - I think price was $1,050 and they fit a 2001 as I recall - if that set is still available and good shape, it is an EXCELLENT price, and you won't find a cheaper set

My Dynatech's came w/ an X pipe

I believe you gain around 25 RWHP from a set of headers - It is a gain, but I don't know how much SOP feel you will actually get JUST from headers - I think installing ONLY headers at this point is going to give you more sound than SOP feel. Also, you are keeping things fairly stock so don't go larger than 1 3/4 inch tubes - anything larger is for blowers, etc as I understand things.

Do as said above and get long tubes(any good brand will all be close in HP), x pipe
intake, then get a good TUNE that will be recalibrated for low and mid range HP. That will get you the SOTP feel that you want. If you want to go one step further, go for 3.90 or 4.10 gears!

Is there really that much difference between the high flow and the stock cats it came with?

Default headers

You can get a set of good long tube headers for about $600(including ceramic coating inside and out) from Jet-Hot. Hi-flo cats are worth a few hp and if you are changing to headers and an x-pipe you might as well get all the hp you can.

How much would you gain by removing the cats altogether?
