so my car for some reason all the sudden the FOBs stopped working. then yesterday on my way to work i get a slight surge but nothing major and my check engine light comes on. ran the code and it comes back high intake temps so we cleared the code and everything was fine. then i go to drive it again and it says active handling warming up. it did this twice but only once said warm up complete. now it doesnt do tat anymore and my check engine light is back on. any ideas?
its a 2000. i was thinking it was the battery too. looked at the terminals and they didnt look bad. previous owner replaced the battery 2 years ago i think
Before you buy an optima you should read up on them here
thanks and ive read plenty. i have also owned many optimas and from what ive seen people asking about or complaining about on this form i have come to the conlusion that most arent mechanically inclined enough to check their own tire pressure. never had a problem with my optimas nor has anyone i know with them. im sure there are plenty more optimas without problems than with
I've had 3 of those damn red tops and everyone died on me. Wouldn't have another one on a bet....Batteries wouldn't hold a charge and won't take a full charge once they do go down....
Fair enough, Sounds like its hit or miss these days with the Optimas.
They seemed more reliable/consistent a few years back, I was ready to buy one until i read on here about them and heard about the Exide, which is what I bought.

im sure its hit or miss just like any other part you buy. if all their batteries were crap they would be out of business
Check the battery cables for good/clean connections to the battery. If you put a little clockwise pressure on the battery cable near the post and it rotates at all, there is likely some corrosion in the connector and you need to clean the connector ends thoroughly. A slight problem on the ground could cause some of these problems.
However one other thing I would recommend if checking your IAT connector. The IAT code and the AH Warming message are related. The AH system uses the IAT temp sensor for it's logic, and if it reads a real low temperature it will affect the AH initialization and throw a AH Warming message. The IAT connector commonly has a problem which will result in erroneous readings and it will throw a code/illuminate the MIL.
