This thing is starting to flake off and it is only a 2004. The dealer said they wouldn't cover it since I have to have less than 12,000 miles on my car since I am not the initial owner. They did give me a contact of a local shop that does this type of work for them. They dye the bezel instead of painting it. They say that is is a lot more durable which sounds good to me since I don't want to replace the bezel with another one that will more than likely flake again. Anyone have similar issues???

That's crazy! the warranty is on the car! not the owner it does not need transfered 3yrs 36,000 bumper to bumper!
I'd find another dealer!
and yes the finish isn't the best and does rub off
Whatever stealership you were dealing with, they were trying to give you the brush-off. Like Ernie said, the 3/36 warranty is on the car, not on who owns it at the time, and if I were you, I'd DEMAND that the part be replaced. Try another stealership if you want, but if they still give you any crap, you should contact the regional GM rep. That's just not right.
Unfortunately, it's a common problem. I have 47k on my 2004 (out of warranty) and mine is starting to peel. Go to another dealer. GM should pay for this, but dealer standards vary widely.

What dealership told you this? Give us their name and email address. The original factory warranty if still good, follows the car not the owner.
I agree with all other posters that your part should still be covered under warranty ,
find another dealer or contact GM directly .
But assuming it wasn't , here is how I fixed the flaking in my son's 99 :
- take part out of car .( several how to's on this forum )
- Lightly sand it all over ( about 800 grit)
- clean it to make sure you get all dust off , I rinsed mine out and let it dry .
- get a can of 3M SEMI GLOSS black plastic / dash paint , you will find that at a 3M automotive supply ,and not at your local autoparts store .
- put a couple of light coats on it and Voila ! as good as new
As other's have said, this is a common problem w/ the C5. I too, sanded my bezel down and painted it w/ MidAmerica Motorworks interior black (3 light coats) and then covered that w/ clearcoat.
The materials cost $20 and it looks as good as new. Actually, it's better than new, because it will never flake off again....Good luck...
They are a huge Chevy dealer here in Houston/Sugar Land Texas. I didn't buy my car here since they are crooks but I go there for any warranty work and I haven't been to pleased so far but they are the closest dealership. They sell alot of corvettes I'm sure because this part of town has a lot of money, on of the richest parts of Houston if not richer than the Woodlands, Texas. Sugar Land, Texas ranked #3 on CNN/Money List a few weeks ago. Just some FYI. You would think they would be more partial to vette owners but this is not the case.
I just called them up and they are going to have the "manager" look at it. I wasn't very pleased once again becasue they were going to have me talk to the same tool which didn't know what he was talking about in the first place. Oh well, lets see what happens on Monday.
