Had my tires balanced and they first had the clip style weights that they pound on with a rubber hammer...well one fell off a few weeks later and that screwed up my balance. So I went to another tire shop and they said that those clips suck and I should use the weights that stick onto the inside barrell area....so I say OK he must be right. Well wouldn't you know that after one wash the glue from the paper backing let loose and again I have lost another weight and my tires are out of balance !
Make sure they clean the area for the stick on wieghts good with alcohol..I used to work at a tire shop and had to clean the wheels really well where the wieght was to go...after stuck on use little bit of super glue around edge.
I know yawl are sayin what the hell but I was picky with my wheels and balence and that is what worked for long time
I had mine balanced at Discount Tire. The guy that did it was a fellow firefighter who also owns a C5. He actually did them for me. He used the stick on weights as well. He made sure the rim was clean before he put them on. He even stacked them on top of each other and behind the spoke so that they are not visible. I still have had no probs. Hope this helps
make sure the surface is clean where the weights go, and take a roll of duct tape with you. after the weights are stuck on, apply a strip of duct tape over the weights and press the tape down on the wheel surface. i have been doing this since the 60's and have never lost a weight.

I have to agree that the shop probably did a poor job of making sure the area was nice and clean before they stuck the weight on. Mine has been on there for going on four years without any sign of coming off anytime soon.

Yup! the SCCA racers I knew back in the 60s and 70s did exactly the same thing!

Thanks guys for your imput....its sounds like a good cleaning before hand than a wipe of alcohol before they apply the sticky weights is the best way to go.

Brake cleaner removes grease and oil really well and evaporates quickly with no residue. Even 91% isopropyl alcohol still has 9% water in it making it worth waiting a few minutes to attach the weights to give that water time to evaporate. And the suggestion several posts back up the thread to put a bead of super glue around the perimeter of the weight to seal against water/cleaning solution intrusion is a good one also.
