Default Firestone Lifetime Alignment Cost Question.

I'm putting new tires on and thought I would get the wheels aligned at the same time. There have been threads about the Firestone lifetime alignment deal. I went to Firestone and they had a sign posted that the lifetime alignment was $139.00. When I told the guy I had a vette the price changed to $269.00. Has anybody else paid that much for the FS lifetime alignment?

WOW!! FIRESTONE used to offer that "deal" when I was in high school ('66). Look at their ad carefully for fine print...does it have any exclusions of particular vehicles? Ask to see the written policy about exclusions of certain vehicles. You might be able to convince the store manager to honor the $139.00 price or compromise on the $269.00...it's worth a try. If he refuses, tell him SEAR'S got in a lot of trouble years ago for "bait and switch" advertising. Your attorney general might be interested if that's the case.

Often, a "Lifetime" alignment is for two wheels only and can be refused if a determination is made that worn parts need to be replaced before the alignment can be completed - check the fine print with a magnifying glass......

The corvette is consider in the industry(among other high priced vehicles)
as a "difficult" alignment due to it's complex suspension and all the adjust-
able settings(ride height, camber, caster and toe in front, andride height, camber and toe
in the rear). A higher price for this vehicle is normal. Good luck!

I was having a major tire wear on my wife's E500 mercedes which is a High Performance car using the same tires as the front of a C5. Inside tire wear. The dealer much like Chevy kept telling me it was aligned, and it was for 150 mph,, but the wife doesn't drive that fast. Finally I found a Firestone dealer that would work with me. Had to buy $100 worth of special MB adjustment bolts. (2 bolts) and then Firestone did the work. The alignment has solved the wear problem and I got the lifetime warranty. The warranty wasn't the reason I went to Firestone, the fact they were willing to work with the issue and help me solve wear was the reason. Total cost $385.00 and a bargin considering NOONE was willing to help within 200 miles. vettdvr

I would never trust any of my cars to a Firestone store. Find a reputable shop that has ASE certified technicans and good equipment.

The "lifetime" alignment may be nothing more than wat is referred to as a "toe and go" where the toe-in is set and that is about all. Then these deals will usually want you to replace shocks, bearings, springs or whatever extra work they can sell you. They will tell you that the lifetime alignment only works when the suspension is in top condition.

Watch out for some of these Firestones. They use the unlimited lifetime balance as a reason to get you in and for them to "spot" problems on your car that they can propose to "fix" for you.

Also something else to ponder when considering Lifetime Alignment programs and/or tire Road Hazard warranties...

If the program/warranty is being offered by a company-owned location, dealer franchises will usually honor it...nor vice-versa. Such programs are usually only valid at/recognized by the selling dealer location, since they profited from the initial sale of the program in question.

Maybe its just me, but I've been buying the lifetime alignments from Firestone for the last 17 years, basically since I joined the Air Force. I've had service all over the country and I've never been turned away and "mostly" I've had good service. Usually I ask about the kind of adjustments that are possible and have them explain all that they have done. Its a good deal and its nation wide!

The lifetime alignment from Firestone is an autocrossers best friend.

Sounds like you've been screwed at one time or another. Yes, unfortunately some shady businesses will try to do those things and they techs like us a bad name. Unless the part is truely bad or near the end of its useable service life, we don't sugeest it. It's important to find a good technician and stick with him(or her). Oh yeah, tipping doesn't hurt either

When I got new tires about this time last year, I got a 3-year alignment policy from NTB for $109. I've had it done three times so far, so it's basically paid for itself and then some. I think a regular one-shot alignment from them is about $90.

To the best of my knowledge, there's nothing especially difficult about aligning a Corvette. It just has to be done right, but then all cars do. Raising the price to $279, as somebody above posted, seems way out of line to me.

While it may be true it's not "especially" difficult to a seasoned technician, it is much harder and more labor and time intensive than say a Honda Accord or a Toyota Camry(which only have front and rear toe setting). Over the period of a lifetime of the vehicle, the extra time and labor it takes is justified with the added costs(labor).
