I have yet to get the bypass, and it only rears its ugly head when I'm letting someone else drive, or I'm following another slow moving car around a corner.
I am planning to order one though, just too lazy to shop for it.
I like CAGS. It saves gas and wear on the clutch and engine. I actually use 2-5 as often as I launch with 1-4 on stock gears. CAGS is only there when you're loafing, so why not?
So...does the CAGS physically prevent the shifter from shifting into 2nd or 3rd?
Yes, a solenoid physically blocks it. The cags eliminator disconnects the solenoid, and puts a resistor on the computer side of the plug that makes the computer think the selonoid is engaged.

Why not you say?
I got caught a couple of times where I was easing into traffic to make a left turn. I would time it were I could roll up to a left turn in first, to let a car or two pass. After the cars pass begin my turn and shift to second. Second is blocked and I am forced into fourth with oncoming traffic. Push the pedel to the floor and the Vette strugles out of the way. Yeah, I should have stayed in first but it was too late, I had already made the decision to shift and couldn't find the time to push the clutch back in and shift back to first.

This happened to me also. I was shifting out of first when it happened so I had no choice. I almost got hit. I got the skip shift eliminator shortly after.

Yeah, it always happens at times like that. Very much worth the $20-30 dollars. Had one on my vette within a week of purchase.
The cags is one of the things on our cars that helps circumvent the gas guzzler tax. It's there as a fuel saver. With that said, get a CAGS eliminator asap! It is a pain in the A$$!
Yes- The C5 also has this...if you are below (I want to say 2000 RPM) it will force you to go to 4th from 1st- There is a simple $20 inline harness you can buy to defeat this. Most of us 6 speeders have this installed as the CAGS is a PITA. Keep in mind, even with the CAGS defeat installed, the 1st to 4th light on the gauge cluster still comes on...but you can use any gear as you wish...
I installed the CAGS eliminator shortly after buying the car and it also eliminated the 1st to 4th light on the gauge cluster.
