I currently have a 98 torch red coupe. I have made some mods to it like wheels=3pc Forged MOMO wheels, Eurpoean taillights, and, lowered it using longer bolts in the rear.
I now want to add an aftermarket exhaust and I have been looking into the Borla Stingers. At first appearance it appears that the Borla Stingers seem to be just all pipes after the cats. Would I virtually get the same effect if I decided to go to my local muffler shop and had them fabricate an all pipe system after the cats.
Not unless your local shop has a mandrel brending machine (not likely). Mandrel bends make all the difference between smooth exhaust flow, and the not so smooth flow that locally bent (crimped) pipes will provide.
Then again, after the cats, it probably wouldn't make too much of a difference, unless you're planning on mad HP.
More like SLP Loudmouth? Any suggestions on mufflers. I was thinking flowmaster. I have not read too much talk on putting flowmasters on C5, is that Taboo?
You won't hear much about flows on C5's, because they generally don't -flow-. The baffles inside their mufflers give nice sound, but that's about it.
If I were fabbing a custom system, I'd go with magnaflows.
Oh yea, and back to your first question; if you run straight pipes (no mufflers) your vette will sound like a truck.
IMO, by the time you pay for the pipe fabrication and new mufflers, you'll be in the price range of a borla system (unless you have a friend who's fabbing them for next to nothing).
Ehhh just get a real exhaust made for the car. If you have someone make one for you its likely not going to line up right, wont have nice exhaust tips, and wont sound good. There are so many systems available for the C5 there is one that you will like. I have personally had Borla Stingers (quad oval tips) and now I have B&B Route 66. The Borla is pretty loud and does give off some drone in the cabin, however the Route 66 system is just marginally louder than stock but offers a great note. I like them both but just do some research and you will find one you like.

The Stingers aren't all straight pipes after the cats. They have a small resonators instead of mufflers built into them that tunes the exhaust sound. Straight pipes dont have that. The B&B Bullets are the same as the stingers but they have smaller resonators which means the Bullets are just a hair louder.
Thanks for the great advise everybody. I will definitely just be buying one now. Can someone give me some advise on whech system to get. I do not want the drone but when I get on it I want people around me to know I am around.
