my left headlight started to not pop up recently. i had the system set to automatically turn-on (twilight) and when it wouldn't work, i would turn the twilight off, manually turn-on the headlights, and it would immediately work. it was happening about 10-15% of the time. now it seems to be stuck permanently. any ideas of a quick and simple fix? i have a 2000.

The headlight gear problem is normally accompanied by a grinding sound when the motor is operating. It's caused by the stripped gear failing to connect properly with the ring gear.
Yours sounds a bit more unusual than the normal problem. If the lights operate normally at all times when you select manually using the headlight switch but not at all when twilight sentinel is selected it soulds like an issue with the sentinel. The strange thing is that TS should be overridden by the manual switch.
JC in XTC5 has a lot of experience with these motors. He may chime up.
My is starting to do the same thing,, left side,, I usually open the hood and turn the manual know about a turn. Then try the lights it usually works for a few more flips after that. It has to be the gears,, from what everyone advises the brass ones is the way to go. Think I'll make that my winter project. I'll probably replace both. Is there any how to tips on this ,, ?
Once you get it fixed I would also turn off the Twilight Sentinel. I hate it when the lights come up for just driving out of the garage. And I think I know by now when to turn on the headlights when needed.
