Default Factory Stripes?

This is perhaps a naive question.... On the '04 Z-06 what's the difference between the blue ones with the Factory white stripes and w/o the stripes? Is it only the paint work? Are they a special edition?

You are referring to the Z-16 Le Mans Commemoritive edition. They built 2025 of this model. The main difference being the color, the carbon fiber hood (10.6 pounds less), polished wheels, memory package, Z-16 logo on headrest portion of seat, and electochromatic mirrors. The only option was the body side moulding if I remember correctly. Even though it was a special edition, more of that model was built than any other color in 2004.

The Z16 package cost somewhere around $4k and those on the market generally go for $2-3k over the other 04 Z06's.

You also have to keep in mind that the stripes, like any other sticker, are worth 5hp each or 10hp total!
And yes, it is the highest produced color of the year, but, it has the value of being the LeMans car! Also, it is not uncommon for Corvette to produce high numbers of their CE cars. They are still quite desirable and are a great addition to any collection.

...and the view from the driver's seat looking out over/between the stripes is sweet....however, watching someone's reaction in their rearview mirror when you swing the "stripes" in behind them is priceless!

Down here in Alabama a K&N filter is worth 10HP so that makes factory Z16 stripes worth 10 HP each...

When I bought my 04Z in March 04, the dealer wanted 56K for the CE, and no dickering.... I managed to talk down the dealer to get my Silver 04 Z06 for 43K. 13K more at that time for the CE. Only ~2-3K more for the CE today ? I'm glad "I" did not spend the extra 13K for the CE..... If you can get one at a good price now is the time I suppose.

Try this site for stripes if you really want stripes on a non CE car.

Plus.....If you add the CE stripes to your car it gives you a perfect focal point on the front of the car to line up when turning into an apex to get the tire right where it should be, kind of like a gun site.
