Newbie question - is it bad to shift from 6th to 4th and stepping into it? Also, I shift aggressively through the gears, is it bad on the car versus shifting slow.
On the interstates I've had to make sudden downshifts to accommodate changes in traffic. No adverse results I'm aware of. I try not to make a habit of doing that though.
Happens to me all the time. Just cruisin along in 5th miding my own business and then some fart can tries to shake rice all over me and I have to downshift into second.....at the track.
"what is this 6th gear you speak of" rofl...thats funny. I never use mine either.
All kidding aside. a downshift from 6th to 4th will do no harm to your car as long as you dont hit the red line. Might be a little hard on the neck though.
6th gear is for cruising only at interstate speeds. If you have all day to pass you can creep by in 6th but need to downshift if you want to "make a move." Hard shifitng can cause you to bend a shift fork.
I use it to go to work every night and come home every morning and watch every one go by me real fast and they all just stare at me probably wanting to know why I'm doing 62 with the cruise on.Well sit in one and enjoy the ride I'm in no hurry to get home just to go to bed I love this car I've had it a month and love it.................
Give it some throttle when you go from 6th to 4th. Other than that, no problems!
Match the revs with the gearing you going to so the clutch and transmission dont take the shock and wear that will occur by just slamming it into gear and stepping on it!
You need to rev match your engine speed to the reduction in gearing. If you blip the throttle as you down shift you should be able to get a smooth transfer without any jolt to the drive train. The tachometer is actually something that you can use in this case.
