Default Something is not right here

Okay here is the thing: A 2002 Z06 was ordered new through Overseas Military Car Sales and has spent all it’s life in Germany. The car currently shows 28.200 Miles. It’s in a great condition and drives just perfect. The interior even smells new.
The cars first owner who ordered the car took delivery in Nov. of ’02. He sold the car to the second owner in Oct. ’03 with about 7500 Miles on. Here is were it starts to get weird !
All of the below listed claim history was done at only one dealership in Germany.

Closed Recalls:

Kind of stunning to see that GM records show 33584 miles on 12/29/05 when the car just shows 28.200 miles now ! The second owner made some notices in the owner manual about oil changes, 02/06/04 @ 11952 Miles ; 08/09/04 @ 11991 Miles ; 05/15/05 @ 19427
If you look at these numbers they can’t even match the GM write-up time wise !
How in the world would one car use up two complete rear differentials & two complete clutch assemblies only within a couple of thousand miles !?
All the second owner told me is that he had the brake pads & discs changed other than that there was no problem with the car at all and no other work besides regular maintenance was done. I know for a fact that the guy was deployed two times while he owned the car. On his second deployment he got very badly injured on his leg, so he definitely wasn’t driving around either. I really wonder how it would be possible for the car to have a major part replaced every several months while the owner was not even in the country !?
The service person who was responsible for work on this car was kind of well known through out the area for being very obliging in terms of parts change. As a matter of fact that stupid person did so much “service” that he got himself fired !... so obviously there is another case of fraud here too.
I heard of free clutch exchanges for some local C5 owners and stuff like that….
The only thing that I’m trying to find out is weather the previous owner did fraud on the odometer or if that crooked service person made up miles in order to order parts that never made it into this car and instead were sold or god knows what went down with them.
I’m really clueless on what to think about the whole thing. I already talked to my dealer today and he thinks that the mileage was made up by that service person in order to screw around with extra parts and make some money on them. I am aware that most of these big parts have to be returned to GM, but I was informed that here things here in Germany work a little different and GM is not too concerned about shipping old parts back. My dealer knows the whole US Car scene here in Germany very well and he said that this is not an isolated cause and that he heard of things like that happen before.
What’s your opinion on this ? Do you think the cars odometer was rolled back and basically is a running parts shelf or the GM service person screwed big time ?

German dealership would have used kilometer not miles. Maybe that would explain some difference in records.

I wouldnt' touch that car, not even for the right price.

I'd be willing to bet, most Z06 owners drive them harder then the regular coupes and verts...

28,200 miles equals 45,382 kilometers.....that looks like it may be inline with the claim history....

I know that 28,200 miles equal 45,382 kilometers, thats just the number that the odometer is showing now. The last recorded milage by the dealership was 33584 miles as of 12/29/05. Like I said, they are recorded in miles.

There really isn't a simple way to roll back the mileage - not with electronic odometers. Think about it - when you cut the battery power, the mileage doesn't "zero". The mileage is retained somewhere. I can't remember if it's in the module itself or the PCM.

Personally - there are too many questions that have no answers. Reminds me of the my favorite Chinese resturant - Som Ting Stinks.

There are too many nice cars out there to buy one with such a nebulous and questionable background. I suggest - keep looking.

All i was saying is that if the "mileage" had been keyed in as kilometers, the numbers fall in line with the claim history. If you know for sure that did not happen, then there appears to be a definate problem.

It appears that you are 100% convinced that there is fraud involved...than why are we having this conversation..?

Walk away from the thing and fast

let's take this from another angle - 33000km = about 20000 miles. Seems to me that would be about right for the mileage the car shows today...

Regardless of the mileage issue, this car has been driven hard and thrashed. Keep looking.

So no one thinks that it was just done by the crooked service person in order to make a good buck off extra parts ?
