Default Center Console won't open

Anyone else have problems with the center console only opening up like an inch. I've looked all over to see if something was getting caught, but not finding anything. Do these have any history of bad hinges or something like that by chance?

This is on my '03 50th coupe.

Pull it towards you when lifting, then oil the hinges.
It's a double knuckle hinge so that it doesn't hit the e brake handle when it's up.

There's nothing wrong with the console. They are all hard to open until you get the hang of it. Just open it until it until it sticks, then pull the top toward you while lifting. Don't be afraid to force it. It will open all the way.

OOPS! I must have been typing while madeouttaglass was posting...

Oil the hinges and it will be easy.

Trust me, checking to see if it was locked was the first thing, hehe.

I've tried using a bit of force, but it wouldn't budge past 1-2" I didn't go much further out of fear of breaking it.

I'll try pulling towards me when I get off from work.

Thanks everyone

it is tricky, I don't think you will need to oil it... just pull the arm rest where it is hinged towards you slightly and it will open to 90 degrees

you'll laugh at yourself when you figure it out, I sure did

Mine was hard to open at first and I did the pull it toward you thing to open it. Finally I oiled the hinges and now it opens up easily, no pulling or anything, it just opens up like you would think it should. Lookie HERE and see.

I thought there was something wrong with it when I first got my car too, but its designed that way.

I didn't say it because he said in his original post he can already open it about an inch which he wouldn't be able to do if it were locked. However, I agree with all the above on the opening procedure.
