I just had the install of the TPIS long tubes, not even a few hours ago, and can I just say... :D
First impressions:
Car at idle has a slightly more muscle car tone as the restrictive precats are no longer present, but slight. But then, you get in the seat, strap yourself in, and proceed to push down that pedal....VrooooOOOOMMM!! HOLY F*CKIN DUNG!!!!! :D
From young lion, too a full grown PISSED OFF adult and smooth rev'in all the way to redline. Out on the freeway, ohh yes you get more in the midrange. I had it playin between 65 and 75, just doin pulls to feel the power difference, and folks, its there.
Sound, power, and it looks awesome in the engine compartment with that silver shine. All I can say is, hello 400HP club...
Awaiting the blackwing, I will definitely be drivin by the seat of my pants.
Great post I'm having mine done Thursday night...Any problems with the install? You will like the Donaldson, i have one..You can really feel the difference?? A little more aggresive sound will be nice..Damn, grown men acting like 17 YEAR OLDS...Gotta love it

I live in the bay area---where did you have them installed? Could you tell me approx install price?
I've been debating putting headers on mine after this I am going to look at it more serioulsy. But I want to look at short ones also.
Hmmm... Why are you you looking into the short ones? I thought I'd look into the shorties too -- until I heard that they'd net half the HP gains of the long-tubes.
Get the TPIS long-tubes, have a good welder/mechanic install them, and stomp on the gas -- you'll be quite glad you got 'em! :yesnod:
Its kinda funny to me how you guys talk about the sotp gain (with the addition of headers) as if you have done a heads/cam setup or a 100 shot of nitrous........I doubt that headers would turn any stock car into a monster??? Anyone else have any opinions on this?

The TPIS headers change the exhaust note and definitly wake the car up more than the ram air. Headers did not make as noticiable a difference in SOTP as did the cam, but the added response was enough to make the car feel very different. The combination of exhaust note and SOTP will make the experience of driving the Z change more than the actual change in HP should make you feel. Don't forget, it's not just the addition of the headers, it's the elimination of the pre-cats also.
Doing the headers tonight will hopefully report tomorrow. I have a Donaldson on mine removed the screen not too much done. Planning on a head and cam package soon, so this was a must. I have 4000 miles on the car and should be able to notice any changes. I am usually very cautious about mods and very honest about the results :chevy

My main concern about going with the long, rather than the short tubes, would be regarding smog legality. Anybody know if doing long tubes will cause my car to automatically fail a legitimate test here in California?
Installation question. When the precats come out, the long tubes weld up pretty much directly to the cats? Is there ANY tuning required of the car afterwards? I want to order these, and I am wondering if I can trust the installation to any muffer shop mechanic more or less? I heard about 4 hours to install. Do you think this sort of thing can be done in your own garage, with the exception of the final welding? I think I would like to remove the manifolds and bolt up the TPIS myself, then drive her down the road to get welded up. (Sure will be making some noise then!!!).
If anyone has done this themselves, please drop me a note.

Why would your car fail with the addition of long tubes? The precats are eliminated -- but they've been eliminated FROM THE FACTORY on the '02's anyway. And, whereas I don't have the figures myself just yet (my own car hasn't been inspected with the headers yet), Carl V. here, who has TPIS's on his car said that the smog increase was something nominal like 3%. Bottom line appears to be that long tubes have no emissions-failing effect on the car.
Now, My '93 Cobra with headers, blower, and NO CATS at all? Well, that was a different story... ;)

PS -- There IS a noticeable SOTP difference with the header, despite an suggestions that there's not. Is the difference the SAME or as STRONG as one might feel with heads/cam package? Of course not -- but we weren't talking about that, were we? (Incidentally, with my Cobra, headers seemed to be one of those "after you've done everything else" mods, but I've learned from day one that the C5 responds best to an intake and headers as the "first things to do" mods.)

Re: TPIS 1st Impressions.... (KMeloney)
My concern was mainly about the visual inspection aspect of the smog check. My guess is that if the "tech" sees in the book that those pre cats are supposed to be there, he's gonna fail it if they're not.
