Default C6 Z06 Shifter

Alright, i have came to a conclusion that I like the "low-rise sleek" appearance of the c6 z06 shifter and have talked myself into ordering one.. My car is a 02' z06 which currently has a Breathless Performance Shifter.. I will be ordering it through Fred Beans, and I would like to order a c6 boot as well from vette essentials.. My question is the little plastic ring around the stock boot doesn't fit as snug as it use to, so where could I find another replacement plastic ring for that and how would it attach to the new c6 boot.. Is there anything else im missing.. Lets hear it from those who made the switch to the c6 z06 shifter and what you did.. Thanks in advance for any input

-Justin

I just put one in my 01. I like it a lot. Much better. Got it from Beans too.
You don't need a new boot. I peeled my original one apart at the top. I used a pair of needle nose pliars to pull it apart...the hot glue or what ever they used where it is rolled over. Once you get it "unrolled" you can roll it down further to fit the Z06 shifter. Turn the boot inside out and stick that new **** down in it. I then took some heavy duty thread (shoe thread) and ran it around the boot right over the groove in the bottom of new ****. I used a big leather needle to get the thread under the boot seems. I pulled the thread up tight and tied it off. I cut a small area out of the boot for the **** mounting screw. I but the **** on with the side screw and rolled the boot back down. It fits perfect and looks stock! I should have taked some pictures...it is simpler that it sounds trying to write it out.

When you order the boot from VE make sure you tell them it is a C6 Z06 shifter boot that is going on a C5. They will cut it accordingly...

The plastic ring is another story... You will need to buy the whole assembly.

Peace

i did the same as VettRick. I ordered a new boot from Mid America, and then used a wire tie in the groove of the C6Z06 ****. It looks great.

Here's another way to reuse the C5 Boot:

No you have to replace the entire shifter, just finished installing mine, wish I would have seen this post prior, now I have to go back and re-do installation of the boot. Thanks 346sfi for the instructional post.

Not w/o modifying it. The C6 **** doesn't have any threads like the C5 one does to screw onto the shifter. I've seen modified C6 shift ***** with the threads for sale on eBay.

For the boot I got mine from Redline Goods...leather has an elastic top sewn in it, so was easy to put over the bolt. Just have to make sure you tell them its a C6ZO6 shifter in a C5...pretty good price too.

346sfi - I've been waiting for something like this. Great pics and instructions.

this is how I did it (twice) using the oring method on the original C5 boot. I first swapped in the std C6 shifter and really liked it. I then put in the C6Z06 shifter. There was not much difference between the two. Std C6 a little smoother, a little talller and slightly longer throw 1" diff 1-2nd gear measured from the top of the ball. The Z06 is a little notchier and a few bucks cheaper if you buy new. I kept the Z06 rather than swap out again and sold the C6 to a forum member. Either way you'll like it.

I did the exact same thing as 346sfi. The stock boot looks ok, but I am thinking about getting the VE boot.
