I was driving on the freeway when my vette lost power. A message displayed "Service Active Handling Control" then a second massage appeared "Reduced Power." I'm not sure why this occurred. Does anyone know why. The only thing I can thing of, is that there is a small exhaust leak between the cats and headers. Could this be associated?

It is unlikely that an exhaust leak caused this. Dump the codes (look in C5 Tech Tips for displaying DTC codes on the DIC) and post them here. Without the DTC codes it is speculation as to what caused it ... wheel sensor problem .. steering angle censor ... whatever. When AH is disabled, you will also get the Reduced Engine Power ... system does this to protect you from aggressive driving without AH.

Just noticed .... you're also in Redwood City ... you in Redwood Shores ... that's where I'm at.

Default Code

I just posted to the Tech section after seeing this thread. I am new to the Corvette world (always dreaming - just took a while to get here) and new to the Forum. I am amazed at the knowledge base that is here. I searched for how to display codes after seeing this thread and was amazed. I wish I had known about this when I was looking at vettes before I found my 2003 with 3400 miles last month. I would have pulled the codes on the used vettes I drove to see if they were throwing any...

Great information and what a great place to be for a Vette guy!

Thanks Sgt Paul

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I checked the DIC and it gave a code reading of PO132 (HO2S) Circuit Low Voltage Bank 1. This I know it's associated with the exhaust leak. There were no other codes displayed. Also, I just repaired and I am recovering from that Column Lock nightmare! What do U guys think?

Great to hear from a local member. I'm in the eastside of the city. Hey, where do U service yous vette? I can't seem to find any place close-by.

Mine occasionally gives me a SERVICE AH or SERVICE TC (like once or twice a year) and when I shut the car down and then start it later the problem has disappeared. Given how lousy our roads are (Don't you just love Hwy 101 in your Vette - potholes, patches, bumps ... you'd think we're driving in a 3rd world country around here) I think all the hard shocks to the system once in a while confuse it. Only time I had a true problem (bad wheel sensor) the car set a DTC and the SERVICE AH/TC obviously wouldn't clear until I fixed the problem. So, I just kinda write off those SERVICE AH/TC messages if they don't set codes and clear themselves ... the price of driving on our Sh**ty roads.

There are two dealers in the area ... Boardwalk here in Redwood City, and Putnam Chevy in Burlingame. I've never tried Boardwalk after a lousy experience with their sales department years ago (I hear they're under new management and have improved in the sales area ... haven't heard any word on their service department). The guys at Putnam seem pretty good. I do as much of my own service work as I can (I have the service manuals for the car) but recently used Putnam when the dreaded COLUMN LOCK problem hit me again (after they'd done the recall service). They made the effort to get the work covered by GM, so I can't complain.

There used to be an independant Corvette shop in Redwood City, but they appear to have closed in the last year or so. Probably not enough cars in the area to keep an independant going ... everyone in my neighborhood drives either a BMW, a Lexus, a Toyota ... even the big Chevy dealer in Menlo Park (Anderson) is gone. In fact, so is the Cadillac dealer, and if you can't sell Cadillacs in the Palo Alto/Atherton/Menlo Park area, there is a BIG problem here!

Mine's a black C5 Z06, maybe we'll give each other a wave some day !!

Have fun out there, Steve
