Been having a strange starting problem lately. I turn the key and nothing happens. Try that a couple of time and nothing. No starter, nothing. Pull key out. Seat and steering wheel move back. Put key in and it starts. Most times it starts fine, but this problem has happened twice this week.
I was having a similar problem. I'd suggest you do some searching rather than take my word for it, but from what I remember it could be a number of things. Clutch switch if you're a 6sp, ignition switch, or something to the starter (or maybe the starter itself) I think....
Mine turned out to be an ignition switch.. I think it was about $200 to have it done at the dealership..
Good luck, I know it's a pain in the @ss when you're not sure if it's going to start up or not.....
I actually had a similar problem with my 2000 z28. It started with an intermittant starting problem like you are describing. Then sometimes it just wouldnt start. Then it would fire up 30 mins later. The wierdest damn thing i had ever seen. One day it decided to pull this funny crap in the morning when i had to go to work. I said screw it and took moms minivan lol. Called AAA cuz i didnt want to deal with it. They were gonna tow it to the dealer. The tow truck driver noticed sparks coming from around the fuse box area. he jiggled some stuff around and she fired right up. When i got home, I investigated and found nothing. Same problem showed up about a week later. I finally got her started and looked under the hood. there was sparks between the chassis and the wiring harness. after i pulled the harness back from the chassis, I found a screw that was used to hold the plastic wheel well piece in place had gone through my harness and was causing a short. the wires were not severed so i wrapped them in electrical tape, cut the screw in half and put a paper towel between the harness and the screw. I know the solution is ghetto but it has worked fine ever since. :-) happy grimlin hunting

Glad to see I'm not the only one with this problem. I've been leaning towards the ignition switch as well. Maybe its not reading the chip in the key.

Appreciate all the responses, lots of ideas. When I get everyones things to try I'll take them all to the dealer and say, TRY THIS! They seem to need all the help they can get.
