Looking to buy a 2001 Z06...rear tires essentially bald at 18,000 miles...is this normal wear and tear as the seller claims or has he been beating the car?
I'm approaching 12K with my OE run flats. I'm almost at the tread bars on all the tires...NO burnouts, NO track days, mostly 65 mph cruising back and forth to work, with an occasional curved X-way off ramp taken briskly. Been running 30 PSI, cold, wear is absolutely even.

My wife had an '01 Z06, and she got about 20K on the first set of tires. The car was her daily driver commuter car, and not beat on at all (60 y.o. grandmother of eight).
The Z06 F1 SC tires start life with 3/32 less tread than the runflats, btw - they are basically a "shaved" tire for optimized track performance.

I got right at 15K miles on my set of original runflats. That is with no burnouts, hard driving and with proper air pressure. Seems like tire wear can vary greatly on these cars.
I have a stock, C5, non Z06. 16K miles, no track, no burn outs, drive normally. Wear is even across the board, but I have maybe 5/32 of tread left. Air pressure has always been set to stay at or just below 28-29 pounds hot.
I have a 00 Vert, I got 21,000 miles out of the runflats in the rear and that was it. They were starting to look hard and dry. Seemed to be in good shape until I got the 3.42 rear diff installed. The bad thing is I really didn't do any burnouts. Seriously.
On what experience do you base this? I have had tires last longer than this with no serious degradation.
Tire manufacturers will tell you they only design the carcas to last 3 to 4 years, but how long they last can vary depending on exposure to UV light and other factors.
I had some tires that I took off my car once, that sat in the garage for a year. A friend of mine mounted them, and the first week he had two blow outs when he crossed a RR track or other irregular surface. The tires looked fine with plenty of tread and no visable cracks.
Then you have the "Fastest Indian" that hid cracks in his motorcycle tires at Bonneville with black shoe polish and went 200 MPH.
Do you feel lucky?
