yes with the car off and the key out does the wheel lock.. if it locks the you have no clb installed.. if it doesn't then you do. plus look up under the wheel and you should see a little black box.

also, if you have the car running and shut it off, you will be able to hear the steering wheel lock too

If the CLB is installed, it's usually attached to the plate near the steering column bracket near the bottom of the dash - as mentioned it's a small black box. You should see the disconnected 4 pin square connector from the locking actuator near it.

This web page has a lot of helpful info and pics.

With the dash apart, your install may take all of two minutes.

Good move!

Above statement is incorrect. One of the GM recalls removed the column lock plate, and also included installation of an H wiring harness, which is prone to failure. I had the aformention GM recall performed, then had a column lock failure / no run situation develop, (the steering wheel would turn, but the car would die, as soon as it was put in gear and moved) which was solved by removal of the dealer installed H wiring harness and re-connecting the wiring back to original factory installation. I then could drive the car once again, which saved me from the hassel and expense of having the vette towed or trailed, and immediately ordered and latered installed a CLS from Thunder Racing.

So now, how do I know if the H wiring harness was installed? If so what is my next move? Again thanks in advance.

If you have the drivers side knee bolster removed, and the dash panel removed, you can easily see the recall installed 'H harness', which will be located just left of the steering column, mine was zip tied to a metal channel. The H harness is a relay approximately two inches square, with wiring pig tails coming out of it. It is installed by the dealer between the wiring and the column lock actuator. The relay in this H harness fails, and then you get the column lock/no run problem. Simply remove the harness, and plug the wiring back together, as it was before the installation.

K harness vs H harness - Are they the same thing?

Since this harness is installed between the lock actuator and the plug for the BCM if you install the CLB into the plug towards the BCM aren't you effectivily removing the harness anyways?

I'm sorry, my bad...............I've been typing "H harness" in error, in my responses above.......you are correct, it's called the "K Harness", sorry about that, and thanks for pointing it out.

Can't remember the original poster but someone finally posted this information clear and concise! I pulled mine and I indeed did have the K harness.

To verify what recall wiring modifications have been done:
1. Pull the knee bolster under your steering column and locate the connector for your column lock motor.
2. If you have orange, purple, green and black wires on both sides of the connector assembly then no wiring mods have been done.
3. If you have white, purple, green, black on the BCM side and orange, purple, green, black on the steering column side, you have the added relay located under your BCM.
4. If you have white, purple, green, black on the steering column side and orange, purple, green, black on the BCM side, you have the harness K installed. You will find the harness K bypass relay located on the left side of the steering column tie wrapped inside the metal hoop. There will be an additional connector between the harness K relay and the original connector which splices two wires (white, purple) to connect to the column lock motor.

My suggestions would be:
For case #2, install a CLB
For case #3, locate the added relay under the BCM, remove it and bypass it. See sticky for instructions. Then install a CLB.
For case #4, remove the harness K assembly and plug your column lock motor back as stock. If this fixes the problem, you have two choices: replace the harness K with a good one or install a CLB.

My luck is only surpassed by my inability to find "sticky for instructions", as you may have figured out I have to deal with #3.

As stated can't find the link, would apprediate some assistance. Thanks in advance.

Thank you for confirming, my current issue is related to the gm fix that I need to bypass as indicated by my prior post and as j84buick recommeded above. I'm not good with electrical stuff so I'm having problems with the aftermarket relay identification and jumping pins 30 and 87 ie white wire and orange wire. Again any and all help is appreciated.
