Have a 99 hardtop with 6 speed. Recently installed new brake rotors (sport brakes drilled & slotted) and new pads (GM ceramic). About a day after the brake change I started getting a DIC message to service traction control system. Cleared out all codes and drove some more and got similar message. It's now happening almost everytime I drive. Codes are as follows:
TCS - C1286H and C1287H
IPC - U1160H
RFA - U1096H, U1064H and U1016H
Anyone have any idea what might be going on? Car never showed this message prior to the brake change.
I put on new calipers (powder coated) and rotors a couple of years ago and have been throwing the same codes off and on. We've tried everything, but I'm still throwing codes. We actually thought that it might be the powder coating screwing something up, but we're not sure. Sometimes I can drive my car for a couple of days and not have a problem. I took it out this afternoon and threw the codes within a couple of minutes.
The C1286 and C1287 indicate a problem with the steering wheel position sensor. Nothing to do with the brakes. The other codes you list are communications failures, and since they are H codes I would manually delete them.
I'm not clear on why you're getting the SERVICE TC SYSTEM as the C1286 and 1287 would disable the Active Handling system. TC doesn't need the steering sensor.
Check the wiring to the wheel speed sensors, you might have knocked something loose.
Also, you didn't mention, but did you put on Stainless Steel Brake lines? There have been a number of people (including myself) who have had intermittent problems with these causing codes to be thrown. The brake lines are actually used to ground the wheel speed sensors to the car chassis. Do a search and you'll probably find several threads on this issue.

No, I did not install stainless steel brake lines. Where are the wheel speed sensors?
The sensors are inside the wheel hub. There is a wire connector at the top of the hub assembly. Check that the connector is clean, and seated properly. Obviously check both sides.
It sounds like it could be wheel position sensor or its associated connectors and wiring. Seems logical if you disturbed it during the brake job.
Bill Curlee posted a great write up a while ago which covered how to clean up the connectors. He also had a snag with a pinched cable. I can't find it with a search but I can drop you a copy if you PM me with your E Mail.
