Default CLB / K Harness question

After reading through 50 threads I have a few questions that I could not find definitive answers on. The sticky above is ok but there are many other threads that also shed some additional light on the subject making the overall picture grey at best.

First, tonight I installed the CLB from Corvettes of Houston. Easy install, took about 15 minutes. I have had the car for about 4 months with no problems yet but I did not want to temp fate anymore.

According to my carfax the previous owner had one recall done:

01044 CORVETTE ELECTRONIC COLUMN LOCK

My questions:

1) What did they do in that recall? My wheel did not lock before I put the CLB in. So they must have removed the locking plate right?

2) I seem to hear that MN6 cars "need" the CLB more than the A4 cars do. What is the story there?

3) I read on another thread the K harness was part of a later recall (040006). Is this true? If not would my car have this harness and how exactly do I identify for removal? I checked at the lower left of my BCM and I do not an obvious dealer installed relay.

OK, i have some experience with this.
I wrote a CLB - Harness K comparision and How To after much research a few years ago. Some 97-98 are unable to use the aftermarket CLB's due to timing and resistance values expected by the BCM.

1. In any event, I had the latest recall done last year.
They uninstalled my Harness K relay (left it in the seat) and installed a locking plate cover and BCM reprogram.
I have had no issue since. Steering is unlocked, but I can hear the actuator cycling as I insert/remove the key. Prevented by the lock plate cover.
Did they install additional hardware? I dont know, but I do know that prior to my install of the Harness K I did have some column lock issues.
Could I reinstall the Harness K? I'm sure, but I have not had any issues or indication that I need to at this point.

2. Research. 2001+ A4 have no column lock, though some may.
All MN6 and export A4 have it.

3. FYI, Harness K is not near the BCM, it would be under the Steering Column, same as the aftermarket CLB. See CLB install intructions for the location and wiring\metripack identification.

If I remember your original post correctly, you got rid of the error messages by installing the GM Harness K relay harness, but left the actuator disconnected (since you still had the lockplate installed at the time).
If you can still hear the actuator cycle, I suspect the dealer installed the same harness that they removed (GM Harness K) and left the actuator connected as the orginal recall on the automatics called for.

You don't happen to have a link to your original post do you?

Found it....
