I just purchased my first Corvette (2001 roadster) and I absolutely love it! I went to the Mid America Fun Fest last weekend and saw quite a few similar cars with colored translucent front license plate covers. Can anyone tell me where I can get one?

Thanks

Welcome to the best Forum on the Net!

My wife has one on her car. I think Mid America and Ecklers both sell them.

I tried Mid America at the Fun Fest, they do not sell them. Ecklers only has clear and sort of a smoke color. I saw cars with red & blue translucent cover at the Fun Fest, but I cant seem to find them anywhere on teh web.

Welcome to the forum and Congrats on the new Vette. Many vendors sell them including West Coast Corvette. I presume you want something like this.....

Thanks for all of the "Welcome's"....

Something similar; the ones that I saw at Fun Fest were actualy translucent and colored to sort of match the body color. I don't particularly like the look of the from plate etc, but here in Illinois it is a requirement.

I will try West Coast

Not that I'm telling you not to put one on, but I haven't had one on the front for a year now and haven't had a problem.

And Welcome from Bolingbrook.

Thanks for the Welcome!

I would guess that the "arresting officer" would have to be a very special type of person to go that far, but ...........

I am planning to leave it off untill either I find one of thos covers or I am forced to put it on.

Welcome to the Forum!

I did a quick search but did not find the tinted translucent covers you describe. I'm sure someone here will know where to find them.

From your description and comments on the one pic (post #6), it sounds like you saw some custom mods. People have taken that plate cover and painted the inside perimeter to make it blend in better - I suspect that is what you saw at the show.

I never understood the point of having a clear cover like this one, protection sure, but as far as looks go you might as well not have one. Try to find one that is see thru body colored, someone should get on that idea.

Hello and welcome.
Check your local laws. It may be just as illegal to cover the plate as to not have it on
Good luck

Haven't seen a front plate cover like you describe, but could be an interesting product. Let us know if you run across one.

I started a new post in this section "How much would you pay"

I think I can get a mold made and do them in colors to closely match the body if there is enough serious interest.

Not that I am condoning this, but I have never had a front plate on my 98' and have never had a problem. I just live down in Springfield. It all depends on the cop and whether he cares or not. My girlfriend didn't have one on her 89' either (it was just sold).
