Do them in whatever color makes you happiest. It doesn't matter what anyone here thinks. Pick a color as a contrasting color - make that your theme and stick with it. If your interior color is black - that's one choice.
I have a black car - my interior it Lt. Grey - but everything else on the outside of the car is red. I have brakelight red letters front and rear. I have red accents under the hood - so the natural choice for me was red calipers (blood red actually) with hand painted black letters.
If red is overdone - that must be because it looks so damn good on most cars. I haven't seen one that it looks bad on.....
