Money is money; you can't carry it with you so no need to stress over it.
Like Jason (Cajundude), I mod for the sake of modding. It's just a hobby. Lots of people have far more extravagent hobbies - boats, for example. Now THAT is an expensive hobby.
And to the stock folks: not everyone cares about resale value. If stock floats your boat - sweet. Some of us are modaholics, and that's what we like. Live and let live.

Yeah I got that hobby also.. It isn't any more expensive that corvettes...
now, sail boats... that is something entirely different... no one makes it out alive in that hobby.

Don't get me started on boats, been there, done that. It's a hole in the water you throw money into.
But I'm not asking whether or not you should spend a lot of money, we've all done that. I'm asking would you have done it differently. I'm not judging, just asking. Believe me, I have my toys, always have.

Hindsight is 20/20. I spent almost as much on changing directions as I have on current mods. Changing horses in mid-stream is expensive in more ways than one.
Would I have done it differently?
Nope. For me, the journey is the adventure, not the destination.

I've also done that to a lesser extent. I installed a torque converter, then took it all apart again for a new trans and gears.
I also realize that everybody's situation and priorities are different. For example, I have two kids in college and I just bought both of them new cars and my wife can't drive in the snow worth a damn so I bought her a new Hummer. I'm also installing a supercharger, headers, and a new exhaust system on my SS so..........I'm doing my part to keep the economy going.
The sad part is that all the "mods" do is make the car less drivable, less valuable, and less beautiful. Chevrolet got it right the first time.
That would be your opinion, and you know what they say about opinions. I've had a blast modding mine, think it's better looking and I know it's a lot faster and more fun to drive than it was stock. Wouldn't have done a thing differently.
With all the variety of sports cars I have owned, this Vette I have now is really the first car modified. Within three years of owning each new sports car, I would get bored with it and want something different. But when you get into the fun of being different and making it what you like, all of a sudden three years have gone by with this car and I have no interest in getting rid of it. It is exactly what I like and proud to show it off. Yes, it is modified quite a bit with allot of $$$ spent. But, when I stand back just to admire how happy it makes me, I know it is all worth every penney. And to me, the picture tells the story...

I didn't post in the previous poll but I have spent quite a bit on mods. Would I do it again? ABSOLUTELY!
Would I do it differently? ABSOLUTELY
I made some mistakes along the way and wish I hadn't spent some of the money I had to while learning what worked and what didn't.
But it was always a dream of mine to own a Vette and every day I'm living that dream. My car is unique. Don't regret spending money on my dream and don't worry about how much I'd lose if I sold it cause I'm not planning on selling it.
I did a lot of the work myself with the help of my dad. Those are also moments I wouldn't have and wouldn't be the same without. My dad is the reason I'm into vettes and we both enjoy our opportunities to work on the car together.
Well said..and the joy of a father and son project
When i bought my car, in no way would i have ever imagined by the age of 21, i've have 40,000+ in receipts in my car. Yes, I wish i had invested 40k in my future. But such is life. I never forsaw so many mods, and parts involved.
However, had i bought a more expensive car, i would have still had to mod it.
I know people who have dumped $300K plus on Lambos , only to spend another $100K on Mods for that Lambo, So I do believe It really doesnt matter How much the initial amount is that you spend on the vehicle, Mods are always lerking in the backs of our corrupt minds, the interesting thing is How to keep coming up with fresh Ideas on how to explain them to the spouses
I've also done that to a lesser extent. I installed a torque converter, then took it all apart again for a new trans and gears.
I keep chasing my tail also. Shortie headers installed..removed for long tube headers, LS6 intake installed...removed for a FAST intake...3:15s installed...removed for 3:42s.
So I know the feeling...of MOD fever

At times, yes, I think I should have spent much less on the car than I have. But, I wanted it to be something different than the thousands of other Vettes out there, so the money was spent. Should I ever buy another Vette I probably would not spend so much on mods, but for now, I'm enjoying it.
We have spent a lot of $$$ on mods. But when I am at the track and see the Ferrari or the Porsche Turbo in front of me getting 'blue-flagged', which means the car behind you (which is me) is much faster (in the corners & straights)...well that feeling I get is PRICELESS!
Or when I follow crotch-rockets through the mtns and at the end they say, "How-the-hell did you stay with us?"
This (modded) car has brought us so much excitement...you cannot put a value on that.
I did so with the knowledge they would not be a 'saving' account, but in fact would lose value quicker than the stock market in the later '90's, early 00's
I have not regretted the expenditure.
I had considered the C6 (and after owning one, which GM finally took back, they weren't worth it) - thus the money spent on the C5's was well spent.
The Verts show, drive, and get more attention than the C6.
In addition - I love it when the C6 'boys' want to play.
