How is this possible ??
Hello all, my name is Jeff and I'm new to the forum as of this week. I just purchased my first Corvette, a 99 C5 from a large dealership 40 miles away on the 9th (love the car). After driving for the first time with the top installed, I noticed a pop noise over my left rear sholder when hitting small bumps at slow speeds. Took the car to my local Chevy dealer that I've delt with for years. They tell me I have a bad ball joint left/rear and would be $390 parts and labor. I decided to contact the dealership I bought the car from and they said bring it in and they would try to cover it. The service advisor drove my car and said he also hears the popping noise in the back as I did. The technician puts the car on the lift and starts banging on my exhaust ?? he then proceeds to wiggle each wheel and then drops the car off the lift. The advisor then comes to me and says It will be 4.5 to 5 hours labor and they have to order the part. They're trying to tell me the noise I'm hearing (which does sound like a worn ball joint) is actually coming from a steering knuckle in the front of the car and is resonating the noise to the back left ??? Does anyone in this forum buy this as even a possibility ??? Let me know what you think.

Sorry, poor choice of words. He just lowered the car down off the lift after doing nothing. The question is, how in the world can repairing a steering component fix a noise in the rear suspension? The lady at the service desk refuses to believe that a ball joint is bad and the mechanic never even drove the car to here the noise that I complained about. Dealer "A" says left/rear ball joint and dealer "B" says steering nuckle ??? How far apart can the two be?? I guess we'll see.
Well, as had been said it's very (read that near imopssible) hard to advise without hearing it but it isn't unusual for sounds to transfer thoroughout a car.
