Default Callaway Honker update

Talked to Callaway today about when the Honkers will get shipped. Callaway was having issues with getting filters for the units and demand was higher than expected. Good news is they received the filters and started sending out units last week to fill orders with their vendors. Also, they said that for those that don't get units in the first batch they are receiving more filters this week. Look forward to getting mine, I think its been about 6-8 weeks since I ordered it, kinda lost track. I will say I ordered mine with Corvettes of Houston and they have been great about kepping me in the loop.

FYI, the dude on the auction site that sells them still has some in stock. It's how I got mine back in August and it was too my door in three days.

I've been waiting for mine from Corvettes of Houston for a while now, too. I've been pushing out my appointment with the local speed shop every week for the past 6 weeks (they are going to install the my full exhaust, too). They've been cool about it, so the only thing that's killing me is the anticipation. My appointment is for this Wednesday. But from what you're saying, it looks like I'll have to push it out another week.

Thanks for the info.

Darion, Thanks for the update. I am also on the waiting list at COH. I spoke to a really nice Callaway rep at Carlisle, and he said they were waiting on a plastic piece not the filter. Maybe they had two shortages, but at the time he was pretty specific about the part. His story was that the subcontractor was replaced, and the new subcontractor was learing the plastic injection process. I thought the Callaway rep was the most professional guy I spoke to at Carlisle. I can't wait to add some snap to my coupe...........

You will like it when you get it. It does wake the car up.And it looks great. Only issue I have had is that the accordion coupler is wearing on my hood blanket a little and fraying it, which is a little distressing. Other than that, it's the one to have in my opinion.

John, according to this link, http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1495024 Callaway reports an 18HP increase. I thought the Callaway rep at Carlisle said 10hp or so. Maybe I'm fuzzy on the 10hp quote. As far as I been reading ( no personal experience) the intake and tune are the most cost effective add ons. I was hoping $800 for a tune and Honker = 30hp. 10% more HP for under a grand is pretty good. Someone on the forum posted that the computer will relearn the new Honker air flow characteristics if the battery is disconected. Others said it will gradually relearn the new airflow dynamics over time. I was going to try the battery disconnect method. I think I'm going to add other mods before the big tune, so hopefully the computer will relearn the increased airflow dynamics.

A good idea while you are waiting is to order the screen from Elite Engineering to cover the bottom and stop debris from hitting the exposed filter. Lots of junk likes to collect up there on all these cars. The screen is a really nice product. and I think a must do with an intake like this. Hey, it's only money, money, money.

I did the screen when I did my Honker, was a nice addition and keeps all the junk out. These cars are like a hoover under the front.

I also used this link for the relearn process.

Regarding power increase after installing Honker systems:
C5 - Callaway's dyno recorded an increase of 17.8 hp over the stock GM air intake system using a freshened 2001 LS1 engine (all published Callaway hp data is SAE-corrected, as GM publishes). Everything on this setup was completely stock including exhaust manifolds, converters, mufflers and tips.

Some tuners have reported a greater increase. Here is an article published by Vette Magazine (Aug 05) where MTI in Georgia removed a Blackwing and installed a Honker. This testing was completely independent; Callaway was not involved at all. The baseline power was 399.8 rwhp. Then, they swapped intakes and power went to 419.4 rwhp. After tuning, they made 432.2.

C6 - GM's air inlet design improved for the C6. They increased air flow and relocated the MAFS adjacent to the throttle body, as the Callaway design did for the C5 system. So there's a bit less of a performance margin. We measured an increase of 12 to 15 rwhp increase in various tests on otherwise completely stock 2005 - 2007 cars prior to any PCM recalibration (tuning).

C6/Z06 - We recorded an increase of 12 rwhp on a completely stock Z06. Tony's Corvette Shop reported an increase of 15 rwhp.
Here's a link to some test data Callaway generated during development of the Z06 version:
