Default Please illuminate me!!

I'm installing my new autometer gauges and trying to find a wire that will power the illumination of the gauges. I don't have a manual lying around and the last thing I want to do is spend hours climbing around my interior with a test light looking for the right wire. I did a search and alot of the guys in the stereo section have used the tan wire off of the "Climate Control Harness" as there source for power, which is what I will use if there isn't anything that is easier to access.

Any help/ Pics appreciated.

I know this is no help, but I used the tan wire off the climate control. I already had the dash torn out, so it was an easy choice for me.

Any chance of being able to tap into that wire without disconnecting the whole console?

I don't think so. There is really no access to the area behind the climate control from the kick panels. I initially thought about the same thing.

Unless you have a 2004, the C5 has a Aux wiring harness in the passenger footwell electronics bay. It's on the left side, & has both switched & unswitched power wires, plus ground. Don't remember which is which, but I believe the owner's manual tells you.

Edit: The yellow wire is switched power, orange wire is always hot.

Actually, I'm not after a switched wire, its the illumination wire that I'm after, meaning I want a source that is hot once the dash lights of the car go on.

So you want to be able to illuminate the guages even when the ignition is off?

No but if I use a source that is switched to the ignition the lights in my gauges will come on whenever the ignition is on. Thats actually not what I'm after I would like the lights to come on only when the dash lights come on.

I dont have any pics but I know there is a wire on the guage cluster that will work. It's to the dimmer switch on the driver's side. I've seen easy ways to get the guage cluster out(do a search). There is a harness that runs to the side of the cluster. My car does not have HUD, but that should not matter since all have the dimmer switch. I couldn't accurately tell you what wire it was without seeing it again but that should narrow your search a great bit. My leds come on when the parking lights are turned on(one click) and when the headlights are on and go off when the lights are turned off. Hope this helps.

Still hoping that someone is going to let me be lazy and have a nice picture of the dimmer wire. I know I know I shouldn't be lazy with my car, but I have been away from home almost every night with either my car or work for almost a month, and my wife is starting to load the gun.
