On a 98 the pass mirror spring retaining clip popped off the support rod that holds it all together. My question is, is there anyway to comprees that spring so I can get the clip back on? The spring looks like a valve spring and feels just as strong and being in such a tight place it's a bear.
I've never even touched one, but would a valve spring compressor work?
My 98 did the same thing.I popped the mirror lens off to get a better look inside. I don't think it's something that can be fixed on-car. There was a guy that posted he could fix the mirror if you sent it to him,but I don't remember who it was. May not be the best solution, but I JB Welded mine back in place. It won't fold in ,but it's holding up well.
This problem has been discussed many times on this forum. Do a search for "mirror" or "loose mirror" and you will find all you need to know. There has been write-ups in Corvette Fever and Vette magazines about this. The guy in Ohio does a good job of repair for around $60. one or 2 day turnaround. Or do it yourself. It's not real hard, just time consuming. I did mine in about an hour each side. Good luck.
I found it . Saved you some time. If you want to do it your self. http://97vette.com/howto/mirror/index.html
I added a long screw and locknut thru there just to be safe because the clip will pop off again.
