Just got my vehicle to drive to work and crappy weather. I have been driving my 02 Z06 everyday since June, and the miles racked up. Bought a loaded 98 Blazer, it's not perfect, but it will do me just fine....
I drove mine all last winter. I bought it in august, so the buzz didn't wear off at all. It took it's toll on the car(down to primer in the front wheel wells and a scratch here or there...but it was fun using it daily). This year, once the ground turns sandy/salty the car is going to snoozeland and I'll drive the beater(when I find one).
I know what you mean about mileage racking up! Bought mine with 812 on Aug 30.05, it now has an even 14,001 miles.

Yup nothing like a good ol truck.
and if you make the Blazer your primary vehical, your vette insurance may go down too.
I have a 97 silverado that takes over when the snow starts to fall. plus it helps out when I have to move or tow something. But it is great because I can go crazy in both cars, one on road and the other off road.
00' Audi S4 w/x chip. Mid 13 second car on pump gas(about that fast in the rain), AWD and snow tires make me look forward to snow (well at first that is). Winter drifting is just to much fun, but as I have moved up in cars I get nervous about damaging them.
A beater is worth the peace of mind when the Z06 might be parked all day at work or shopping. I have been using a reliable 85 Ford Tempo for years for rain/work/shopping and the Hummer for deep snow. I just smile when I find a new door ding in the Ford, actually the white Ford is looking like a golf ball due to all the dings.
LS6 blew up 12/22/05 with 50,564 miles on the clock, 403 being finised wed, so i havent driven the car in 9 months and 2 weeks. The car also spent time in the shop, about 3 months total, for several warranty issues and body work due to a 2X4 flying off a truck and smacking the nose cracking it from left to right and cracking the left fender, something went under the car and bent the right rear wheel as well.
i also owned other cars and motorcylces that i used daily while driving the vette. 25k miles on 4 motorcycles and 20k miles on 2 beater vehicles '88 cherokee and '96 altima. I bought both for 1k and sold them for a profit this year.
Police impound/abandoned vehicle auctions are the schit! nice cars that people had, went to jail, got out, couldnt afford to pay a couple of grand in impound lot fees. most cars start at $200 and go up in $50's. I bought and sold 7 cars in the last 20 months. Originally going to buy a daily driver seeing their was a profit that could be made off them. So they were for sale while i drove them.

i have a 93 accord manual that i bought in 2000 with 130000 miles on it. i now have 300000 miles on it and have put only $500 into some front suspension parts. i still get 31 mpg driving the crap out of it...and the e brake is fun in the winter!
Well...I bought my 01 Z06 to be my daily driver and so far it has weathered a hail storm and a tropical storm ...3.5 k miles in 2 months so far! So it is as close to a beater car as a Vette gets!

big time. Put your Vette as a recreational only car iwht low miles When I got mine a few years back and put it on my policy and was asked how many miles I drove my truck this year and I said "0"... priceless (I was at the end of a deployment when we first went into Iraq in this century...)
O back to the post, 05 1500 4x4 Ram SLT Hemi. I could not get a silverado as 5 guys in my Hq bought them when we got back and I had to be differant, plus my dad had just bought a 3500 dualy, cumings and I was amazed how cumfy it was.
It's clasic at the track with a 5200 lb truck, bone stock giving mustang gts the run of thier life and ricers neck and neck
I drive my Z in the winter if the roads are clear and no snow is in the forecast. The car is terrible in a 1/2" of snow, never mind 2 feet. I have a 04' Suburban that I'll use if the weather is bad.
Dave I never though about drag racing the desiel doully, More torque then most cars.
Yea it was pretty funny, in my truck the 1500 not the dualy but still. We had a diesel in Nam that used to run 11s with slicks on all 4 corners. Heck I was just out watching my buddies while my 390s got rebuilt, heck not rebuilt, replaced (even the cases wtf?). Great post and I hear more of it soon when it gets cold outside.
Dave
PS winter mods soon!!!
I only have about 3-4 weeks left of good drivig weather here....My winter ride is no dog .....457 RWHP and 910 RWHP....13.83ET......22MPG.....Blows alot of black smoke ....01 Dodge 4x4.....Funny how my tow truck out runs alot of the cars that are towed to the track......
