Mystery button
What is the little push button on the dash under the hud controls for? The icon on it makes me think it is some kind of light, but I couldn't see anything happening when I pressed it.

From the '04 Owners Manual:
Interior Lamps
Instrument Panel Brightness
The **** for this feature is located on the left side of the instrument panel.
Push the **** to release it from the stored position.
Turn the **** clockwise to brighten the lights or counterclockwise to dim them.
Be sure not to have this **** turned all the way down with the lamps on during the day. Your Driver Information Center (DIC) may not be visible.

I often think that this may be the culprit in many of the dead battery incidents. If its left on the interior lights stay lit.

Ahhh that makes sense, I couldn't see that during the day with the lights off. 
I did notice the DIC was bright when it was showing errors on the car I was looking at, but dim after I 'reset' through them.
